Today I learned that a comparatively weak quantum computer with just a few thousand Q-bits as compared to a smart phone using billions of classical bits, could perform more computations simultaneously than could be performed by the entire visible universe if it was made into computers. It's mind boggling how these quantum computing techniques can exponentially be faster than classical computers. I find the below 8 minute video very interesting and the whole channel contains some real gems:
  2. That is one weird backpack. Im not sober btw.
  3. That is pretty good. One could argue about rape being portrayed in the song like the Christian God forbids it not encourages it but...lets not ruin a good song here

On second thought, the fact that I learned nothing is not the worst thing. I might a actually gotten more stupid which is scary.

Today I learned that spending half a day posting in a thread about religion prevents you from learning anything.

Adorable. On top of the fact that both of these warms are scary af, they also both have cheesy, cheapo markings/coloring. Quintessence of nope.
  7. Considering that the ISS cost around 150 billion and considering that this project would be significantly more complex and timely I think it will be orders of magnitude more than 100 billion. I hope you're right though...if you are, it would mean that it could be done privately without government support which would make it more plausible.
  8. As much as I like these kinds of divagations I can't help to notice that the stuff you guys wrote so far would't go into billiions imo. Considering that the US military budget for 2018 is 827 billiion, the things said here would go into tens or hundreds of trillions USD. And would need to be done in cooperation between countries over the period of decades.

Presumably these are its limbs which put in wave like motion propel the thing really quickly in the direction of your throat. At your service Sir

If I say something else about elephants, I'll contact you first.
  11. Laughter through tears but amusing anyway. "Energetic frequency" is my favourate.

Hey, I knew that. You could have just asked me
  13. Not exactly a joke but darkly amusing.

Since I haven't seen a convincing definition of "consciousness" I say they're both.

Yep, pretty embarrassing for me. +1

I think flies, cockroaches and other insects do not have a brain - just a simple nervous system. So their perception of everything has to be hardwired in to the nervous system by default. Cats are a different ball game I'm sure as they do posses a brain. What fascinated me about this is the relativistic aspect of time (phylosophical not mathematical)...makes me think about maximizing my own time here on earth.

Makes sense right? I was always fascinated how a fly seems to have ages of time while escaping my hand movement trying to catch it. Same with cats...their paw movements and reflexes in general are beyond a human. I also learned today that NASA denied a conspiracy theory about kidnapped children working as slaves on Mars. There is a conspiracy theory about Mars in which there is a colony there where kidnapped children work as slaves. The claims were made by a former CIA case officer on the radio talk show Infowars hosted by Alex Jones. http://www.techtimes.com/amp/articles/210884/20170630/nasa-denies-conspiracy-theory-about-kidnapped-children-working-as-mars-colony-slaves.htm The stamemet by NASA seems legit, this is what their spokesman seemed to have said: There are no humans on Mars. There are active rovers on Mars. There was a rumor going around last week that there werent. There are, Guy Webster, a spokesperson for Mars exploration at NASA, told The Daily Beast. But there are no humans. http://www.thedailybeast.com/nasa-denies-that-its-running-a-child-slave-colony-on-mars?via=twitter_page&utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link&ICID=ref_fark

I learned that small animals perceive time at a greater resolution than humans. A fly can perceive up to 7 times more audio and visual information per second than a human. It would seem that small animals live shorter but faster lives, a dogs life of 15 years while experiencing time at a higher resolution might be just as "long" as a larger animals life living longer but at a lower time resolution. Fascinating...I wonder if Einstein had these kinds of thoughts while coming up with relativity. https://curiosity.com/topics/small-animals-perceive-the-world-in-slow-motion-curiosity/

We went to the ZOO with our 1 year old over the weekend. I took the below picture of a baboon and looking at it it got me thinking of how interesting the visual and behavioral similarities between homosapien and other primates are. I learned that baboons are part of the "Old World Monkeys" tribe and that the classification of primates is actually pretty complex. I know virtually nothing about evolutionary biology and I know that there is nothing scientific about what I'm about to say but...just look at this guy's eyes and facial expression - it's astounding (click for larger image):

This means that since we had a kid 12 months ago both of us suffer from chronic amnesia. Or my second half suffers from it according to this study.
