  1. Go search your registry, either for the key (if you know from websites, but you probably don't know cuz you are asking here), or for the startup programs. OR you can go to MSConfig and look at the start up and boot INI. If you are going to do anything boot your computer in safe mode. OR go online and try to find a solution for that virus. If nothing, no AV works, reinstall your system if you have to. AND if it's anything like W95.CIH, which attacks the boot sector AND BIOS, well, then you'll have to find an alternative.
  2. There are lots of novels about how hackers are different from crackers. Go search some in your local library. Also, this book, called The Blue Nowhere, is an easy read and it is about how hackers are different from crackers, shows, although in 3rd person omnicient POV, what Albertlee is trying to illustrate.
  3. Well, seeing that in this forum the most frequent patterns are either perfect squares, other-than-10 based systems, and prime numbers, I experimented with them 3. [hide]Tried other-than-10 systems first. Didn't make head or tail. So I tried with the prime and squares. Took me 2wice as long as the last sequence. Last sequence I had like a spark of genius. But I think I managed to get this one right. 3,7,14,23,36,49,66,83,104. Is that right? The pattern is the increasing perfect squares + the increasing prime numbers. So the first number is 1*1+2=3. Second Number is 2*2+3=7. Third=3*3+5=14. 4th=4*4+7=23, and 5th=5*5+11=36 and etc.[/hide] Word problems are fun. Im still trying to crack the word problem in the thread "Translations" about "Potassium Iodide (T^2/T^4)(1/Y)^-1". Seems like Kitty but T^2/T^4=T^-2=1/T^2. And I can't make that work. Well, still trying.
  4. Sound waves are transverse waves, which means that they, unlike electromagnetic waves, require the movements of particles to carry it across. It is the compression of particles and the de-compression of them. Now, as we all know, in solids, or in denser materials, the particles are more packed, which means that they will compress and de-compress easier cuz they are right beside each other, and thus carry the transverse wave across faster. And in low density gases the particles are far apart, thus making the wave travel slower. Sound travels in, say, steel many times faster than it does in the air. (think how people putting a stick in their teeth and the other end on the railroad to test to see if any train is apporaching).
  5. LOL. Congratulations everyone. I'll just finish Ducky Havok's answer for the sequence of 11, 20, 31 and so. [hide]Perfect squares in octal. So the sequence is: 4, 11, 20, 31, 44, 61, 100, 121.[/hide]
  6. Also don't expect 100% yield. Theoretically the yield should be 1mol of KCl = 39.09g/mol +35.45g/mol = 74.54g/mol. That is for every 36.46g of HCl and/or 56.1g of KOH you SHOULD theoretically get 74.54 g of KCl. But the percent yield will be less than 100% usually, so the actual yield should be less than 74.54g of KCl.
  7. OMG. I lost count of where I was at least 20 times before I got this answer. Well, here is what I THINK is the answer. [hide]11101 Well, the first impulse is binary. That was mine. So I started on changing the entire sequence to binary, didn't work. Came out gibberish, 197 mil or sommat. So then I started to wonder why only 5 more digits. So I fed the number in brackets into my calculator, turned to decimal, which was 23. 23 is a funky number, very odd. It is an odd number, indeed, and a prime number. And 1 digit difference between tens and ones. Prime numbers have shown up a lot, so I started to keep in mind that 23 is one too. Next, I realized that it needed another 5 digits, which means the 5 in front of it, 23, have some stories. So I began to wonder, does the 5 digits before 10111 (23) have similar properties as well? I tested it, which was 10011. I fed it in, and it was 19 decimal. Also a prime number. So I tried the 5 digits before that. 10001, which was 17. Another prime number. But then, something weird happened. The 5 before made 19. The sequence isn't going well. But I was almost sure I got it. So I started to try something else. Then, something good happened. As I pasted the numbers into Notepad, I decided to try again with the digits 11101 (29). I held down Shift and left arrow, but for some reason (frustration maybe?) I pressed too fast without counting. I copied and pasted what I thought was 5 numbers into the calculator, and when I finished, I realized I had gotten only 4 numbers. 1101. I still pressed the decimal button, and what came out was 13. In the sequence too! Prime number. It was perfect. So, for the next number I used 4 numbers before, getting 1011, which is, of course, 11. But then the 4 before that didn't work again, so I tried 3 numbers. 111. It worked, and got 7. And the number before that was 101, and I got 5. Then, before 101, I used 2 numbers(11), getting the grip of this sequence, and got the decimal 3. And finally, I used the first two numbers, 10, to get 2. So the sequence is: 2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23. A series of prime numbers from least going greater. So of course, the next number is 29. Which came out in binary as 11101. 10111011111011110110001100111011111101 Is that correct? I DO think that is.[/hide] Is that right?
  8. BLACK SLACK SLICK SLICE SPICE SPITE SHITE (OMG I can't believe I used this word. It is a real word but it is quite disgusting. But it is a real word. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Shite WHITE
  9. Yes your theory is actually correct. Good guesswork if that's what you say it is. Anyways, strong acids ionize completely in an aqueous solution, and the neutralization reaction's net ionic equation will equal H+ + OH- -> H2O, with Δ[math]H^0=-57.3 kJ mol^-1[/math]. However, if a weak alkali or acid, or both, is/are used, then the enthalpy of neutralization will be lower than -57.3 kJ/mol, due to the fact, like you said, that weak acids ionize partially or very little in aqueous solutions, AND energy is ABSORBED trying to ionize the unionized molecules. This is what happens with acetic acid. It so happens that the neutralization of acetic acid with ammonia: CH3COOH(aq)+NH3(aq)-> CH3COONH4 gives Δ[math]H^0 = -32.0 kJ mol^-1[/math]
  10. It takes energy to strip away the electrons. Heat a gas to over 6000 degrees and THEN it will send off its electrons and start being a giant cloud of ionized gas. Yes it is possible to create a negative charge without electrons or muons or tauons. Antiprotons .
  11. Yes. He2+ ions. Also, in dative (coordinate) covalent bonding involving hydrogen, the hydrogen would be H+ and requiring 2 electrons from a donor.
  12. Lol sulphuric acid dehydrating sugar. That was one of the funniest moments when I first saw that giant stick of black foam. Yes that is a really good experiment. Nice and simple. Oh, here is another even simpler experiment, but really funny too. Take equal volumes of potassium iodide and lead(II) nitrate, (both colourless), and pour the KI into the Pb(NO3)2. Yellow precipitate will immediately form.
  13. You are kinda, 10% on the right track, Martin. Anyways, when I said think outside of base 10, I meant think other widely-used bases. Now, what bases are widely used? Try it now. Also, [hide]It DOES have something to do with the digits, but not adding them together.[/hide]
  14. Consider it a function if you think it will help you. Now, anyone has any ideas?
  15. Okay. More numbers. 222 becomes 14. 800 becomes 13. 999 becomes 18. 111 becomes 13. Try it now. HINT: [hide]Think outside of base 10! Think things like octal, hexadecimal, or binary?[/hide]
  16. Erm, it's not much of a function. I haven't figured out any f(x)=formula, as you have to [hide]Think outside of base 10 system[/hide]. Anyways, consider them functions if you want. Trying to make the point here that you have to virtually disect the numbers, not just multiply things to them.
  17. Callipygous! OMG you got it! Yes they are indeed palindromes. Good job! Anymore word puzzles from anyone?
  18. @ Flareon: Try potassium dunked into H2O. Much more violent.Hmm, my favourite chemical reaction: 2C6H2(NO2)3CH3 → 12CO + 5H2 + 3N2 + 2C (Yay TNT)
  19. Well, to add to that Oscar Wilde Collection: There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it. Oscar Wilde Now, some of Einstein's quotes: "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." (Oooooo wisdom. Albert Einstein And of course: "Imagination is more important than knowledge." 20. Woooo. This question is very mind boggling. Try it: If you use a certain formula (you do something to) on 13, you end up with 7. Under the same formula (doing the same thing), 2352 becomes 16, 246 becomes 14, 700 turns into 16, and 1030 becomes 14. What would 9304 become? And WHY? A hint for those that are struggling (don't look if you can do it yourself): [hide]Think outside of base-10 system[/hide]
  21. Nitric acid by itself is a powerful oxidizing agent, yet its chemical equilibrium for the reaction w/ gold only permits a miniscule amount of Au+3 cations to form. But in the "royal water", hydrogen chloride reacts with nitric acid, thus creating nitrosyl chloride (NOCl), water, and CHLORINE. The chlorine anions allow the formation of a stable ion, chloraurate complex (AuCl4-). Due to this high concentration of Cl- ions in aqua regia, the Au+3 reacts almost instantaneously, keeping its concentration low in the mixture, thus allowing more gold to be oxidized into Au+3, and the gold is dissolved.
  22. Try this out! Took me a whole 50 minutes! Take the list of words below and arrange them into 3 sentences that all have something in common. Each word is only used once each time they appear in the list. ('A' can be used 4 times as it's in the list 4 times.) Punctuation is not an issue in this teaser. A, A, A, A, ANIMALS, BAR, BAT, DAN, DROOP, I, I, IN, IN, IS, IT, NET, OR, POOR, SAW, SLAM, TEN, WAS What are the sentences and what do they have in common?
  23. Oh well, I was thinking of your third, or final answer Flareon. Tho it never occurred to me for some reason that there are 2 answers. I was thinking of your final answer. [hide]1:25 when he finally arrived.[/hide]. Srry Flareon. Also, never doubt your own answers .
  24. OMG, Flareon you are so close. Think upside down from your 2nd answer.
