If you use the phone system there is certainly nothing the phone companies should be doing to restrict your speech, so there is no obligation or responsibility for them to do so other than to allow the judicial system access to wiretap when it is important enough to the safety of the community to override your rights. So the phone companies have laws that protect them from liable when their assets are used to do harm. If these media platforms wish to maintain the same protections they can't get to decide how to police their own systems regardless of the fact that they own them. It might very well be good, (or not) that Trump has had his rights to use compromised and restricted, as it has been with some of his tweets removed or have qualifiers added to point out that his statements are false, and now his right to use removed completely, but the platforms themselves should not be the ones to decide if they are going to have their protections from liable maintained. Imagine if I made libellous statements on twitter against everyone who has posted in this thread and twitter decided to add a statement to the effect that the statement against, say, String Junky is false, while allowing the other statements to go unqualified. I of course would be subject to lawsuits, but why should twitter not for their implied agreement of my other statements? They are all insufficient. But what if they became "sufficient" to block views you agreed with?

On topic. I just wanted everyone to know I'm advocating for Trump 2024. (not to get elected...to get to vote 😃)

Okay thanks. When that's nuisance level (which it could have been) that would seem more of a protest. I think the fact that he was asking for more than that, that which could only be accomplished by illegal force, is what makes me feel he's crossed a line and committed a criminal act. I don't know how the law gets interpreted though.

In Canada the polls are open for 12 hours with additional time for line ups. Not paid but it's required that employees have 3 consecutive hours off to vote. Also criminals having voting rights, even while incarcerated. (We agree with Bernie on that one...at least I do) Gerrymandering has largely been eliminated, by having voting districts determined by independent agencies. I've always voted in person and have never been aware of any issues with anyone voting, for any reason, that weren't resolved allowing someone to vote, or seen anything but respect for those showing up to vote. (that part of course is certainly anecdotal)

I'm sure if the best of the BLM movement, the emphatic but peaceful protesting, had been acknowledged to have acceptable limits, and the violence consistently condemned, there may have been at least a few less wingnuts unloosing themselves on your Capitol yesterday...not that that makes those wingnut's any less responsible for their actions...but it might say something toward civil discourse. Also note that I'm not equating the two, the BLM riots (in fairness rioting, as most weren't there to riot) and yesterdays attack on the Capitol. But while the second is potentially far more dangerous, both are to be condemned. How many Democrats and Republicans consistently condemned both?

Emergency measures this could be reasonably done, probably through some judicial body and the court system longer term, but it's a slippery slope if platforms are left to decide this on their own. Unless they want to be responsible for all of their content. As far as yesterday's events being a blow to democracy; one could hope it could be a cathartic event that could enhance it. Any hopes of Trump running in 2024 should surely have taken a hit, have they not?

I know everyone insists I'm equally hard on each side...but I'll just point out that I saw some Democ"rats" one's as well.😛 In Trump's defence though...it seems he was actually robbed of a landslide victory: "These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long," Trump tweeted. "Go home with love & peace." We all would be a little upset if that happened to us... Sure, but I'm going to vote for the party that insists the US will foot the bill.😉
