  2. Hi everyone, I hope my simplicity isn't frustrating for you all. I just have a few questions: 1. When a power source gives energy to the free electrons in the current, do these electrons turn from a negative charge to a positive charge? 2. Where do the free electrons come from? Am I correct in assuming that they are in the wires and the volts from the power source energise them to flow? Ar have I got it completely wrong and they actually come from the power source, along with the volts? thanks in advanceeveryone!

    Light, magnets emitting photons ?? If Magnet emits photons and light bulb also, so why doesn’t I see the photons emits from my magnets. In a florescent light the ultraviolet are converted to visible light thanks to the inside phosphorus coat. But 2 types of light bulbs doesn’t attract or repel each other, if its emitting photons just like a magnet does

  4. I have vaguely read from some crappy sources that some Gas Turbine Engines have multiple chambers. I tried searching all over the place for this stuff, but the whole freaking internet has nothing on it. If ANYONE has any bit of information on the design/how they work/non-vague diagrams/ ~anything~, please tell.     Why is the gravitational field of the earth is larger when one is located at the equator than located at the poles? I know that rotation accounts for it, but why does rotation affect the earth's field strength? It doesn't make sense to me when we put a stationary object just above the earth relative to the sun, the gravitational field of the object changes a large amount when compared to the situation that it is in contact, rotating on the earth.

    A ball is thrown vertically upwards. It rises, falls back down, strikes the floor and bounces back up hwere it is caught at the same position of that it was originally released.     Hello, Im trying to make a ball and socket wheel at the moment as a little project. It might be used to sit on but do not know yet , all i know is that it will need to take quite a bit of weight. What i thought of doing is getting a cup shapes piece of metal with a ball inserted just over half way into the cup and then with ball bearings inside the cup to help the ball move around . The only problem i can think of is that the weight is going to damage the ball bearings and dirt is going to get in from the ball and onto the ball bearings and clog them . I only recently started reading up on general relativity , and read about the gravity probe B, which is an experiment to test Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity, particularly the effect where space and time get pulled out of shape near a forcibly-accelerated or rotating body in a phenomenon referred to as frame-dragging.     So, I've been wroking a lot with graphs this week, which seems to be leaning towards Newton's Universal Law of Gravitation. We have done many proportionality, but derving the formula has proven to be very difficult. I'm not sure of this means anything to anyone, but its work the try anways. After a series of three intense self-hand made graphs I was able to develop two proportionalities: one which related Force versus Distance, the other relationg Mass versus Distance.     Hi, I have a primitive understanding of physics overall though of course I am interested in what it studies. I have a couple questions I was wondering if people here could clear up for me simply because I think I am just confused on what is being said really. What is the relationship between the laws of conservation such as mass and energy and how a black hole functions. I have read up on Stephan Hawkins’s and I was just wondering if his idea as originally put forth would break such laws. Also, when viewing atomic structure and related properties I came to wonder it time and energy(no specific form) have any relationship overall.

    Just curious.. but is a person wearing full plate more susceptible to electricty, or will it act as a Faraday cage, counterintuitively decreasing the amount of electrical current flowing through his body? Furthermore, will other metallic armour work the same way to a lesser extent?     About Coulomb's law, it only works for a small test charge. I am not perceptive of this part. Does it works for a conductive sphere? I found many questions in my book employing this law to calculate the answer where it involves not only a small test charge but also a sphere.

    its been many years since i studied physics and am having trouble getting my head around the subject of heat retention in materials. i understand that the specific heat capacity of a material is the measure of energy required to raise 1g of a substance by 1degreeC. If the amount of energy required to change a materials temperature can be calculated by /\Q=mc /\t does this mean a material with a high specific heat capacity is a good insulator? does this also mean that an insulator is good at retaining its heat?

  20. I want to build a Thermopile to generate usable electricity with a heat source, like a small fire or something, I can build something like this but, I only get 1 mA and an ant of a volt.     As the title says I am a biology student I want to understand string theory and all the controversy behind it. String theory is a model of fundamental physics whose building blocks are one-dimensional extended objects (strings) rather than the zero-dimensional points (particles), I understand what this says, but I don't understand how this would apply to real life or how would change the current understanding of our universe. Please try to explain in general terms, with minimal use of complex terminology, when it comes to physics I'm dumber than a sack of bricks.

    Hi, Given: v=40 cos(100pi t + pi/3) Question: what is the min number of msec that the function must be shifted to the left if the expression for v is 40 cos(100pi t)? therefore I have the equation: 40 cos(100pi (t+t0) + pi/3) = 40 cos(100pi t) hence, 100pi (t+t0) + pi/3 = 100pi t However at that point I decided to check the answers making sure I was on the right track and I was not. According to my book: the equation to start was: 40 cos(100pi (t+t0) + pi/3) = 40 cos(100pi t +2pi) with the 2pi we end up with a t0 positif but the way I did it, t0 is negatif. Is that the reason why they added the 2pi ? Thanks for your answer(s)

    Hi all, We've just been studying the Hall Effect and it was noted that magnetic field detectors which use the Hall Effect are based on semiconductors. Is there any specific reason for this? All I can seem to find is that the voltage measured for semiconductors is much larger, and from the Hall Effect equation V(H) = IB/net this would indicate that a larger B field could be measured...
