problem: What is the pH of a solution made by combining equal volumes of 0.100 M sodium propanoate and 0.100 M propanoic acid? (the Ka of propanoic acid (HC3H5O2) is 1.3 x 10^-5) Can I use the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation? If I do, for the [A-]/[HA] part of the equation, could I plug in (0.200 M C3H5O2- / 0.100 M HC3H5O2) ?

I'm doing this question for physics, and I'm a bit stuck. The question is: A hotel elevator ascends 200m with maximum speed of 5 m/s. Its acceleration and deceleration both have a magnitude of 1.0 m/s^2 a) How far does the elevator move while accelerating to full speed from rest? b) How long does it take to make the complete trip from bottom to top? Part a I did Vf^2 = Vi^2 +2aΔx 25 = 0 + 2(1)Δx 25/2 = Δx = 12.5 m (and I got the answer right) now part b I tried a couple of ways, I tried separating the problem after 12.5 m, so x(t) = (.5 a t^2) + Vit + Xi 200 = .5t^2 + 5t + 12.5 So quadratic is .5t^2 +5t -187.5 = 0 t = 15 s I added 5…

1) Out of 90 tins, 24 contained corns, 12 contained beans, 36 contained peas and the rest conatined mushrooms. Find the probability that Sean will have to open more than 2 tins before he finds one which does not contain baby corns. I am not very sure how to tackle this question. I thought of using complement, but I don't know what is the eact opposite of this situation. Actually I don't really understand what the question means. The answer was 0.069. 2) A box contains 6 black balls, 4 red balls and 2 yellow balls. 3 are drawn with replacement. Calculate the probability that all 3 balls are of the same colour. Why isn't it (0.5)^3 x (1/3)^3? The correct an…

I'm struggling to understand what is a proof in modular arithmetic and what does not. Example below; a = b(mod M) c=d(mod M) 1) Prove: a + c = b + d (mod M); a = b + hM c = d + kM hence; a + c = b + d (h +k)M a + c = b + d (mod M). No problem so far. Now; 1) ac = bd (mod M) ac = (b + hM)(d + kM) ac = bd + bkM + dhM + hkM^2 To me- that isnt ac = bd (mod M) -> what am I missing? Secondly; a - c = b - d + (h-k)M which to me IS a correct modular arithemtic calculation i.e. a-c=b-d (mod M). Aparantly it's not thought?

say i have a heat exchanger with a capacity of 100,000 BTU/hr. and that steam will be the heating fluid, and oil will be the process fluid. i understand how to calculate for all my needed info for the process fluid. but i am not sure how to calculate the required info for the heating fluid (steam). i want to be able to figure out how to make sure my heat exchanger is working at its full capacity, but i need to know how much steam i need to get into the system. anybody have the needed equations for this?

Hi I have do to a science project for my school. I choose to use listerene in a boiling point separation experiment. They will let me use all of the classroom equipment, but I have to figure out EVERYTHING else (because our books aren't too specific ). I have to distell 250ml of listerene and separate the alcohol and the water out of it. How do i set up this experiment? Also fyi they said that its fine if i ask for help on science-related forums oops i meant boiling point separation.

I will just like to ask everyone why they think children should be taught Science? what is the important? would it benefit them? or what should i t tell a child about the reason why he should like science and not to be like me. Grateful for your response

Now, I'm not quite sure where this goes but its my homework that led me to the question I have now. The original task was to do an experiment to show the relationship between amps and resistance, the resistance was made using varying lengths of wire. Now the original task went well, I showed the relationship wrote a conclusion etc. but, I measured the voltage as well and it seems to change with the different lengths of resistance wire. Now, I used the same battery each time and tried each length multiple times but the voltage has different value for each length. I would assume that the voltage would stay the same. The next day I did it again and the voltage did s…

I've been given this question as a part of a revision tutorial. I've already done the calculations but was wondering if anyone could point out any glaring errors. This is not an assessed piece of work, so strictly not homework per se. The turnover number of carbonic anhydrase: Carbonic anhydrase of erythrocytes (Mr 30,000) has one of the highest turnover numbers among known enzymes, it catalyses the reversible reaction of CO2: H2O + CO2 -> H2CO3 This is an important process in the transport of CO2 from the tissues to the lungs. If 10μg of pure carbonic anhydrase catalyses the hydration of 0.30g of CO2 in 1min at 37°C at Vmax, and the reaction volume is 1m…
