How many moles of ATP are required to pump one mole of Ca2+ out of a cell when the cytoplasmic concentration is 0.2 uM, the extracellular concentration is 1.8 mM, and the membrane potential is -55 mV? I know I have to use deltaG= RTln([Ain]/[Aout]) + ZFdeltaPsi but how do I get the number of moles of ATP from deltaG??

I am currently in a genetics college course and we received an extra credit restriction mapping problem that no one seems to really understand how to do, and unfortunately the teacher hasn't been much help. I have difficulty understanding the Pxy diagram of a binary system (e.g. an ideal benzene-toulene mixture) and some facts in general, have been stuck there for hours, reading notes and everything but never seem to find or understand it. 1) Why is the bubble point line the line that indicates the total pressure of the system (partial pressure of benzene and toulene vapours)? 2) Why is the dew point curve and how do I derive it, because I really have no idea. 3) When I say a liquid is saturated, it means it's in equilibrium with the vapor, or is it 100% liquid. Hi everyone, basically, i m writing a report on a practical i did, and a bit confused on how to interpret the results. We used glucose oxidase to determine the glucose in patient samples, glucose is converted in to glucuronic acid, and there is hydrogen peroxide generated as well, and this is reduced to water by another enzyme (horse radish peroxidase) and the oxidising power produced forms a pale purple colour. We added the enzyme in our plasma samples, and they formed this pale purple colour, and then we measured at 575 nm. So does this indicate the presence of glucose in patient samples ?

This isn't exactly a homework question, so it might not be in the right thread, but... We've been learning a lot abut forces and such, as well as momentum and impulse.There were two things I was wondering about. 1) How do you calculate the amount of foce needed to break something? For example, a board. Do we just use F = ma to find out how much force the board has? And if so, does that mean if we strike the board with that same forcve, or more, then it would break? 2) How does force injure a human body? I have circular wire loop (radius 10 cm) that exists in the presence of a growing magnetic field. Thus, an EMF of 5 V is induced in the wire. We are given that the wire resistance is a constant 2 ohms/cm. Two arbitrary points are chosen on the wire, A1 and A2. These points divide the wire into two arcs, L1 and L2, where L1 = 3L2. Now, the question asks: What is the electric potential from A1 to A2 along the longer arc? And along the shorter arc? My book explains clearly that "Electric potential does not have meaning for electric fields produced by induction". Hello. am trying to find out how to determine what the charge of a transitional metal is based on the periodic table, with the end goal of working out a name for the compound formula and quantities of each atom etc. when given a chem compound formula containing a transitional metal and a main group non metal, finding the charge of the non metal is easy. my textbook says that transitional metals have different rules to the main group ones but does not tell me how to get the charge of them. I know it has something to do with the roman numerals along the top, but only keep being referred back to the main group elements. any help with this would be muchly appreciated.

For a lab we did on Tuesday, we are required to do a flowchart (in order to assist us in part two of the lab this week). I emailed my lab TA my flowchart, and she told me I had the right idea but should start out with OH- so that I can have all filled up ppt (precipitate) and spn (supernatant) throughout. For some reason, I am having trouble on linking them together. The OH through H+ experiments are all a sequence, but the PO4 and Fe(CN)6 are both independent, so I am unsure how to factor that in.
