    1. You have been given an infinite number of ropes. All ropes are of varying length. If you burn any single rope such that it is lit from one end (and allowed to go on till it reaches the other end), the total time the rope takes to get burnt is one hour. Some parts burn faster than the others. Now a person comes along and claims that he can use this ‘burning ropes ’ method to exactly measure time of one hour and 15 mins (75mins). He doesn’t use any other method, source or tool (besides burning and observation) to measure time. How would you do it if put in the same situation? So I've noticed that based on problems I've worked on, whenever the degree is known, for some reason I should automatically assume there's a unit circle involved, and when the degree isn't known and the angle is just left as theta, then the problem is for some reason automatically talking about degrees instead, but I have no idea why. So what if the angle is known? I don't see a unit circle magically appearing when I'm measuring the angle of a window or whatever.     A calorie is the amount of energy needed to raise 1g of water 1 degree, so does that mean that colder foods would take more energy to digest as they have to be raised to body temperature from say frozen or something? I know that a food calorie is really 1,000 calories, so the difference wouldn't be too great, but is there a difference at all? What about eating food that is very hot, would that result in more caloric intake?

    So if I have A=xe^rt for a continuously compounding interest equation, then according to the calculator that is also equal to xLn(A)=rt, but when I solved for it using real numbers, I didn't get the correct number. The known info is the initial amount is 750, and after 7 and 3/4 years, that amount doubles, I have 1500=750e^r(7+3/4) yet when I solved for it 750ln(1500)=r(7+3/4) ---> 5484.915=r(7+3/4), then /(7+3/4) and I got 707.731=r, and since I'm suppose to find out how much I will have after a specific amount of time as well, and I can't really go backwards in time, this doesn't work.     I'll be taking beginning calculus this upcoming (Spring) semester and, as I am only a recently returning student, what math skills i do possess have been a-gathering dust on the shelves, no doubt in some musty recess of my mind.     Hey, Im doing an assignment from my org.chem. class, we are using the OWL cengage website. Im supposed to show the second step in aldol condensation, but i cant get my arrows to go where i want. the second step is when the 'negative' C goes to the 'positive' C and the double bond goes up to the O right? if im explaining it in a weird way, sorry.. but i cant figure it out and its driving me insane. or maybe ive misunderstood the second step... anyone?

    Hi all I have been give a hypothetical situation where a spontaneous mutant mouse was identified with muscle wasting in the limbs. I must discuss how the mouse disorder could be used to study human disorders and I am assuming this relates to muscular dystrophy.     Hi, I'm new at all this but I have a growing interest in Physiology, and have a question... In relation to the central system (Limbic), does the Pituitary receive signals last and then reciprocate ? At a glance, the Pituitary hangs in relation to the Hypothalamus which is connected to the rest of the central system mainly being the Thalamus and Hippocampus, including optics and frontal lobe etc. But my question being, could the connection with the Amygdala / Hippocampus & Thalamus be described as a pre-cognition to the Pituitary ?

    Hi, I found this website to help me figure out gene mapping: http://www.brown.edu/Courses/BI0020_Mill… I know how to figure out the parentals. I just pick out the row of phenotypes that are in greatest number. That's the 417 and 430 right? However, how do I know which numbers (this under "gene mapping-an example) will show me the distance between sc and ec, and which ones will show me the distance between vg and ec? i.e. how do I know which numbers I'm plugging into the map distance equation correspond to the distance sc to ec and which ones for vg to ec, how did they choose those!

    The question r = 1 + sint Find the points on the cardioid where the tangent line is horizontal or vertical. I get dy/dt = (cost (1+2sint)) = 0 and dx/dt = (1+sint)(1-2sint) = 0 I can see for dy/dt you get pi/2, 3pi/2, 7pi/2 and 11pi/6 and for dx/dt you get 3pi/2, pi/6 and 5pi/6 I am struggling to remember how to find the r coordinates of this. Do you substitute the points back into the original equation? You find (2, pi/2) ; etc. I just need to know if that is how you would get the r coordiante. If someone can help it would be appreciated.
