Hey, I am really worried about my future. I love science so much but i find the exam really difficult but i know all the stuff in class and at home. I get into bits when i get into that exam room and to make it worse i am dyslexic and i find it extremely difficult to read the questions and interpret them. I really want to have a job in Science. I have such a passion for this subject but i cant pass the exams. I am in the UK but i really dont know what to do. I did my double award GCSE exams last mount and i am constantly thinking about how i did if i will get a B to get onto the A-level course. I do BTEC Level 2 Diploma as an extra in school and get D* but this qualifica…

Hey there all! I'm sure you get a lot of these topics however at the current moment I don't have the time to search through pages to find them so just throwing this up. Lately I've taken an increasing interest in Physics and was wondering if there's any recommended starting points to learn as a base before moving onto a more specific field, perhaps some good books explaining the fundamentals? I would have started this a few years ago (I'm currently studying an undergrad in ethical hacking) but I allowed good opportunities to pass me by, something I regret, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

Hi guys I'm new to this forum and wanted a bit of help on a project I have started. I'm very passionate about every field of science, but I find Astrophysics particularly fascinating. After nearly a year of watching inspiring YouTubers, such as Vsauce, SciShow, MinutePhysics, etc, I've decided to make a YouTube channel dedicated to Astrophysics. I personally don't have a lot of experience in making videos, however, I have had experience in presenting and educating. I have done many presentations at college, mainly about topics like Space Travel, Colonization of Mars, etc. I thoroughly enjoy sharing knowledge and want to help educate the general public. So I'…

  7. Hello world. [The obiliatory] Sorry if this is in the wrong section, this is my first post on here. Forgive my wall of text/mini rant. I have some anxieties about graduate school and was hoping for a bit of guidance; I am nearing the end of the second semester of my junior year so I will be applying to grad schools before long and wanted to hear your thoughts on some things. I am working toward my B.S. in psychology with a biology minor and I have realized that the area I really want to go into is neuroscience, in particular I think I am leaning toward the molecular/cellular side of neuroscience/neurobiology. I chose a psych major because the brain has always been of …

Hello I’m currently looking for information and videos online because I want to learn more about human anatomy. For the time being, it’s just a hobby and not planning on doing anything with it professionally. I came across an online program and it looks really interesting and allows you to learn a bit fast than researching it all yourself. Has anyone tried this or is using it? Here’s the article I read: http://humananatomyreview.wordpress.com/ Looking forward to your replies.

  11. I do not like this Topic Title because it is inaccurate; whereas, and my experience as a programmer has taught precision is crucial. But, after considering the purpose of a title, and wrestling with my language limitations (I am far from being a poet), I decided to use it, because a title needs to engage an audience, as science education for 13 year old brains need to engage its intended audience and must sometimes sacrifice accuracy to do so. Of the few books I keep around are some chemistry books and some math books (algebra/stats), because I might need a refresher on those topics in order to solve some problems, and I find the Internet to be inadequate. But as of late, I've considered just tossing all of my books to save space around my place. Anyway, I know where to retrieve similar books if ever necessary. What do some of you do with your college books after passing a class? Sell? Toss? Keep? Reasons?

  14. Shimon Schoken, a professor, says about grading, "I'm sick of it." "Grading takes away all the fun from failing." "We collect your B+s and A-s and aggregate them into a number like 3.4, which is stamped on your forehead and sums up who you are. Well, in my opinion we went too far with this nonsense, and grading has become degrading." The Nand2Tetris open project teaches those who complete it the basics of computer science. One learns how to build a computer from nand gates. Using the computer one built, to develop an assembler. Using the assembler, how to make an operating system. Using the assembler and operating system, how to make a simple java-like compiler. And,…

For to long I am studying and one thing that has bugged me forever is citing. Many teachers and professors want the list of cited sources perfect according to the citing rules. If you mess this up to much the paper will not even graded. I think there's an easy way to change all this and I wonder why it isn't in use yet. Usually I try to use the apa norm (as much as possible), but this has a couple disadvantages: 1) Many different people, many different interpretations of the apa citing rules. There are quite alot of different resources that can be cited: books, websites, emails, reports, etc and they all have their own way of being noted in the resource list. And…

Good evening everyone, I have a great interest in science, am sixteen years old, and totally stuck in what I should choose to study when I'm done with school. I live in the netherlands, we have a very different school system then other countries, but basically, I will have to choose a "package" of things to learn, math english and dutch are basic, but all the rest is decided by me. I don't know what job I want to look forward to either, I'm just in general very interested in science. I love stephen hawkings' documentaries, I get fascinated by them, and by einstein's theory of relativity I enjoy reading about mutation, I am interested in CERN (even …

Greetings people, i am a 23 year old from Australia wanting to go to uni. I dropped out of school at the end of year 10 and started my apprenticeship. I have been reading online a lot about the process and requirements for going to uni and it confuses me. For starters the subjects that i read alot about at home and the ones i would want to study are Physics, biology and chemistry. I dont know where to start to begin this process, i understand i will need some higher education to be excepted into a university. I was thinking tafe, than i read somewhere about open universities and doing online courses. What type of courses would be best suited? I am lost as where to start…

I was reading this article and found it very difficult to read but I wanted to get a second opinion. It's pretty length, but I would appreciate if anyone would read it and give some constructive criticism or negative critiques. I need to set-up similar experiments as it but there are some problems with the design. I just can't work them out with certainty The article is called PROPIONIBACTERIUM FREUDENREICHII STRAINS AS ANTIBACTERIAL AGENTS AT NEUTRAL PH AND THEIR PRODUCTION ON FOOD-GRADE MEDIA FERMENTED BY SOME LACTOBACILLII would appreciate any help or feedback.

We hardly know how the brain works. We still don't have a clear picture as to what intelligence is in the brain. Nor do we know what traits ( memory, wisdom, common sense ) make up intelligence. That is why I find it absurd that we try to measure and grade people's intelligence with a number (or a letter if it's a grade) , when we don't know how it works. It is funny how we try to measure something so varied with the same yardstick. What is your take on this ? Is it a wrong practice to be measuring a person's intelligence based on a number/letter ?

  21. For our physics class we are supposed to pick a book to read then present it to class. Are there any easy to understand books (for a layman), under 250 pages, that doesn't really delve into the mathematics part of the physics, but the conceptual part? I've always loved this kind of science but I can't understand it because of the level of math and science I am at right now.

  22. I am currently trying to decide my undergrad major. After looking into a couple different fields of study, I have landed on these three: -Biochemistry -Chemical Engineering -Bioengineering I would ideally like to work in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry. Which of these degrees would be best suited for that? I have seen instances of all three being utilized. Also, which degree is strongest without additional graduate study? If you could, please explain a couple different job titles associated with each degree, so I can determine which one would be most compatible with my interests/goals/abilities. Thanks for your help!

Hello, I'd like to first say that I'm a new member, and I apologize if I do break the rules by posting this or by anything I say. I'm currently a senior in high school and I'm going to be entering zoology as my undergrad in the fall. I'm not too sure what I should specialize in, as the school that I plan on going to does offer some specialized course. I was thinking about going into herpetology, entomology, or conservation biology, but that's still a while away (junior & senior year). I am, however, going into wildlife biology. I do have some background, I've been handling snakes since a young age and I am knowledgeable when it comes to animals. No boasting intended…

  25. I've applied to grad programs and am now experiencing crippling indecision between two offers with a looming deadline. Would any extremely generous established scientists (preferably in env science/chemistry, but otherwise knowledgeable ok) be willing to look over my side-by-side program comparisons and offer an opinion please? I don't expect the magic answer, just maybe some comments based on experience in the field, in which I am yet to be submerged. I don't have any family in the scientific community, most of my friends are still undergrads or in a different field and the only scientists I know seem biased due to their familiarity with me. Outside perspective would b…
