Ethical dilemma

If you found an earth like planet around a star twice as massive as our sun, which would mean it's life span would be very short on the order of one billion years. If the star was going to make the Earth like planet uninhabitable in say one million years would it be ethical to colonize that planet?

That's a long time to figure out what to do when that time comes. If everyone knew ahead of time, the society could all be planned in phases.

 

It's hard to think about a million years being too short a time to invest in a civilization. It's like not buying a home because, with the way it was built, it'll probably fall down in a few thousand years.

One million years is still a considerable amount of time when compared to our own life span. So, colonization of the planet would still be worth the effort. Furthermore, a million years is more than enough time to build structures and colonize the solar system itself and not just the planet. The value of the resources throughout the solar system would also make it a viable and worthwhile endeavor.
