Non-spiral galaxies collision

Featured Replies

Have there even been two non-spiral galaxies collided with each other?

Four elliptical galaxies at once! I didn't even know more than two galaxies can be involved. Does this only happen to eliptical galaxies, or can f.i. 3 spiral galaxies also merge at the same time? Or how about 2 spiral galaxies, and 1 elliptical one??

Any number and any type of galaxies can 'collide'. It simply depends on their relative vectors. If they end up in the same space at the same time, they're colliding. And that's all dependent on gravitational attraction.

I think we have to understand the question about this way: does it was registered observable collision of two non spiral galaxies?

Thanks everybody! That really helped me!
