I would like to invent a machine that will eliminate all the dust in a room using more static electricity than anything else in the room. Maybe it can do this with the help of a fan.

 

My story is that I own a very very small body shop and I do all my painting with no paint booth and only one small exhaust fan. Not many people are familiar with the process of painting cars but it is very hard to do well because when I put on the see-through clear coat, all dust that is in the air crashes into the wet paint, leaving a spec in the paint that looks really bad.

This probably doesn't sound like a big deal but I have a feeling there's going to be a revolution world wide in this industry when more products like this become available.

 

So please I'm begging for anyone who knows how to use static electricity. I love to learn but I need someone who can tell me what I should be learning about.

When you invent it, it will have widespread applications in industry.

 

I often toyed with the idea of some sort of van degraaff accelerator for causing dust to come off of equipment and then adhere elsewhere. I never studied the question but suspect it's more complicated than it appears on the surface.

Seems you have not checked / searched for existing equipment, like negative ion generators.

I unplugged mine as the area around the wall outlet got blackened with dust particles
