Are these meteorites?

Featured Replies

I found these, what I beleive to be as meteorites. They are magnetic and have unique distinctions that normal rocks dont have. Are these in fact meteorites? Here are some pictures I have taken. The one with the CD is to show how big they actually are. The bigger one weighs about 170 Grams and the smaller one about 100 Grams.

i would figure out their density and then compare that to the density of iron if they are close then it might be a meteorite (but could also beterrestrial hematite or magnetite) if it is not close then the ods of them being meteorites is nearly zero

I would say they look like it. With the quartz deposits being an exception.

... though it could have easily been metamorphasized by the atmosphere as well, and its starting to look more like that.

A meteorite does n't have to be iron, it can be rocky in nature or even carboniferous (sp) but they look like black dolomite to me.

These are not meteorites. The rocks are hematite, an oxide of iron.

Hematite
