FOX vs Beck

Mr Beck’s television audience was down 40 per cent in January, but this reflected a similar decline for the preceding show’s audience and Mr Beck still beat the combined audiences of MSNBC and CNN, the cable rivals to Fox News, this person said.[/Quote]

Since Fox Business Network (FBN) has been gaining audience, some has been coming from FNC. Opinion Shows start in earnest at 5PM ET on both networks and 5PM is the hardest time slot to succeed in.

Admittedly this year, Beck has gone a little too religious, in content, for me to appreciate, but this New World Order rant he has been on, while effective, is a little complicated for prime time TV, IMO.

As for Beck not being granted a "New Contract", it's not likely they would replace him in December which in the "rating wars" is a long time off and 2012 will be a heated election year.

As for Conservative Radio, I believe you will find a great many local conservative personalities making headway in various markets, especially in the larger markets. That is conservative radio markets are increasing, not decreasing and much less expensive than the big guns.

Do you think FOX will actually fire Beck?

Naa!, it will be a mutual thing between them. He's harder than "balls" on an elephant. By the way, who was the guy ("dip") doing the narration? Gotta be someone new on MSNBC? By the way, what happened to Mr. Ed the tough guy? Is he opposing Leno now? Edited by rigney

if so, do you think they should?

I think it would probably be a good business move. TV stations are businesses that make their money from advertising. Glenn Beck is so luny that he was dropping advertisers left and right. That means he costs FOX money. Glenn's ratings have also been steadily declining. So, yeah, it's a good plan for FOX. Even conservative radio has been dropping him.

By the way, who was this MSMBC "dip" doing the narration?

Cenk Uygur is the host of The Young Turks which airs on his website and on YouTube. He recently took Keith Olberman's slot on MSNBC after being a frequent guest on the Dylan Ratigan show.

I'm not a big fan of talking heads from any compass point. They mostly seem to take views so narrow that they end up preaching to a fixed choir. And with so much news all the time, people end up listening only to those who represent their compound.

It's almost impossible to find pure news sources. Agendas are everywhere!

rigney; I don't know, having been involved with more than a few of these "mutual agreements", both as an employee and employer. As a guess, I'd say Soros's or one of his of "activist" groups has put the pressure on Roger Ailes or maybe Murdock and both do need access, Soros can provide. Remember both Soros and Murdock do a good deal of business in Europe and Beck as been exposing Soros activities. Anyway he (Beck) does still have his 8M (weekly) audience on Radio and other outlets. There might be a family security issue involved as well and he has had these problems in the past.

Phil; I think you'll find up to 25% of any audience (Liberal or Conservative) are listeners/viewers to programs they hate, but want to know what the opposition is saying. Anyway Beck was not and has never claimed to be a "News Source", purely opinion.

Jackson, reading and hearing of the Chicago "Black Socks" scandel of 1919, kids like me, thirty years later, believed sports programs had become pristine and beyond reproach. Naive? Oh hell yea! And it took me nearly fifty more years to get my head out of my ass. Today as then, folks who believe sports or politics are a clean and honorable profession, are as ignorant as when we were kids.
