The media report whatever that is news worthy. especially if there is much casualty. Only the scientists knows better what is going on. The media probably doesn't know that much. But its good to know sometimes. If you are planning a vacation, and Haiti is in chaos, will you go there ? I live very near an earth quake prone belt. but I've never experienced anything more than a slight dizzy feeling during an earthquake. Thanks to a land mass that usually buffers the impact.
