Its dangerous as the reaction can heat up enough to flash boil the water (as I've discovered in the past). So having boiling sulphuric acid flying around is not the safest thing in the world. No you cant get chlorince gas because theres no chlorine in there to start with

Would the reaction be more facile if diluted right down some or done in an ice bath or something? Or if the reagents were added slowly and drop wise from an addition funnel, burette or pipette?

yes, the reaction is perfectly safe as long as you aren't using crazy concentrations like 2M solutions and just dumping the reactants in by the bucketload.

do it with 0.05M and add the reactants gradually and keeping it well stirred is perfectly safe.(as long as you wear eye protection to protect against splashes, gloves should be worn too)

Im not taking it out on you, im trying to prevent anything bad happening to you. But since you dont care, why dont you throw every chemical you can find in the household cabinet together and watch the pretty stuff. If you really were learning, you would at least have googled for stuff here instead of being ignorant.

EDIT: didnt see there was a 2nd page already

but i looked on a bottle of bleach it sais that THIS CONTAINS SODIUM HYDROXIDE

tea contains tannic acid but it's not made entirely of it. some desserts say "may contain nuts" but you don't automatically decide that you have in front of you a pie made entirely out of nuts and nothing else. Sure bleach contains sodium hydroxide. it also contains sodium hypochlorite and a bunch of other things including some stupid colorants to make you think it's somehow cleaner because it leaves a stupid coloured stain on your toilet and some revolting-smelling chemicals which are supposed to make you think you're actually turning your toilet into a pine forest rather than chemically burning the shit out of it.

a) don't believe everything you read

b) everyone lies

c) the presence of one thing does not preclude the presence of other things.
