My Equation For "Doomsday"

This all started last night and this begining story might fool you but i still think it is credible. So here it goes. Last night me and a few of my friends decided it would be a good idea to smoke marijuana (which i do not do regularly and had not done in 3 years) and watch some of my 50+GB of space documentries from numerous sources. So we did and as we were all watching this in complete silence and coming up with our own meaning of the universe, I think i might have stumbled upon something. okay the documentery was talking about the super massive black hole at the center of the milky way and how in 1999 there was i massive explosion at the galactic center. now i was thinking how this explosion or future disturbances could effect the galaxy, especially earth. Now i thought if we saw the light from this explosion in 1999 then when would any such form of matter or magnetic disturbance reach us here in our solor system. well i looked online for the distance from us the the supermassive black hole and found no credible estimate. But what i did find was the approx. speed of the matter being ejected from a super nova which is 1805978 miles per second or 1/166 the speed of light. which mean it will take anything that could disrupt our universe 166 times longer than the light to reach earth. Which means we could have time to prepare. prepare for what? no idea what i am thinking of as effecting us from such event is maybe some sort of shockwave if there is any in space slightly disrupting the kyper belt or something of that nature or maybe a strong magnetic pulse or insense radiation or something i really have no idea.This egation is not at this point in time the "event" will happen it just says at this time the "event" has started in sense if it were a astroid that get it's orbit slightly dispupted so it will impact earth my equation finds the time when that astroid will be knocked off it's orbit and the event is also where the astroid is when if gets knocked off it's orbit so x finds the distance from that point not earth and since any astroid would be within one light year we are going to say that the time of the event would be the same as earth beacause it could also directly effect the earth like magnetic fields or something sorry if im confusing.. . i just though i would share because as long as you guys call me an idiot or not it was fun for me to imagine that it was credible so here you go shoot it down or not. I am open to critisicm

y=Time for light from galactic center to reach event

z=time for disruption from galactic center to reach event

B=time light reaches event

c= time disrution reaches event

n=time since light reached event

t=time of event

 

e=How long after you you see the diruption till it happens

Nick,

Some random thoughts for you.

1. Welcome.

2. Your speed of light figure is way out. You are quoting the supernova ejection speed as 1805978 miles per second and say this is 1/166 the speed of light. That would make c = 300,000,000 miles per second, approximately. Curiously enough this is the speed of light in metres per second, not miles per second.:doh:

3. There is no good reason to assume the ejection of any material due to an event at the central black hole would be at the same speed as from a supernova. It might be faster, it might be slower. Since the mechanisms are quite different there is no reason the speeds should be similar. Unfortunately that rather invalidates your whole idea.:embarass:

 

4. We know to the distance to the galactic centre quite accurately. Before the Keck telescopes allowed us to make infrared observations the galactic centre was obscured by dust and the closest we could come was to say around 8 kiloparsecs. The figure hasn't changed, but we are now much more confident of its precision. (8.0 +/- 0.6 kpc)

5. Your underlying thinking is sound: events detected by em radiation may pressage consequences that travel more slowly.

6. Any 'intense radiation' is going to arrive at the same time as the light and other em radiation signalling the event.

7. One of the great concepts in written English is the paragraph. If you had used some you might have had more replies.

8. Overall - and I mean this kindly - your thesis highlights the dangers of indiscriminate pot smoking.:)

I think your folks wasted some hard earned money on your education.

However, I think what your trying to say is, your looking for the method of the destruction of our planet. All this doomsday talk is leading people down the wrong path. Try not to pay any attention to this garbage. I on the other hand am looking for the excitement of the launch of the NGST ( Next Generation Space Telescope). This should give us all the information needed to answer question more provocative and exciting than some garbage a shaman uttered 5000 years ago.

The information we get from the NGST should answer questions that we've been asking since the dawn of human intelligence. How it all began ?

Not how will it all end? What could have caused all that energy?

Also.. just to put it in some perspective.. your 'doomsday equation' (god, it's fun to be stoned, innit ;p)

 

basically is: -Hey, I am guessing somethign might happen when other effects affects us when it reaches us long after the light of that effect (ie. 166 times later as you say). Ok, Now, the centre is what, roughly 26000 light years away? Meaning it would take about 166 * 26 000 years for these effects to come about: ~ 4.3 million years from now :)
