If the world could vote for US president

Interesting how Iraq is the only one to strongly support McCain. Gee, I wonder why?

Interesting how communist Cuba is leaning towards McCain... maybe that should tell us something.

Yeah, that is interesting, isn't it? It's more than just being communist, though, since the other communist countries are strong Obama.

I guess the best way to approach this is to look at which countries lean McCain, and ask why. So: Iraq, Cuba, Macedonia, Congo, and Namibia, with toss-ups in Algeria and Sudan. Iraq I can see - they can't (or think they can't) hold their own country together, and only McCain wants to indefinitely lend them the full power of our military to police their country for them. Talk about buying votes! The other countries, I have no idea.

In your opinion, do readers of the on-line version of the Economist represent a representative statistical sample of the world's population?

Well, I feel stupid. I assumed it was based on traditional polling, but in retrospect that's pretty clearly unfeasible. So the question isn't "why do people in [country] feel that way," it's "why do Economist readers in [country] feel that way." Which obviously is a very different question.

There must be a certain stigma associated with being named Cain and being a warmongerer. "The worst McCain evar."
