Im looking to go into engineering, anyone know of any good scholarships out there for that? Im in Nebraska, and i'm looking to go out of state if possible, but not too far from home. I was looking at Iowa State. Since there's a lot of people on here that are currently in college, thought i'd ask. What are some good tips to do in high school to help out with college/scholarship acceptance? I've taken the ACT once, last june, got a 29 on it. broke down to: eng: 22, reading: 28, math:32, sci: 34. Since that was after my Sophmore year, im looking for a few higher points, probably take it again in december. English is killing me, not a big fan of grammar. I don't know how it's set up now but for me I was told to take senior algebra in high school and when I got to college I found out I should have taken algebra +trig. Wasted a whole class taking it over in College. Nebraska is good for a lot of scholarships. Go for em. Also take as much English as you can. What you know is useless if you can't communicate it . P_Rog Posted October 30, 2002 Author Share Posted October 30, 2002 Well, i go to a small school, high school has about 300 kids max. I've been taking about every class offered. So far i have: Algebra 1 and 2 Geometry I'm in Trig right now and plan to take Precalc next year A lot of schools offer precalc as a jr. and calc as a sr. but ours doesn't. I will have 4 years of english, and like 3.5 years of Social Science. I have 2 years of computers(keyboarding and a year of basic computer programming) I've had biology, chemistry, Im in advanced Chem right now and plan on taking physics next year. Our school offers one architechual drawing class, which i think i'll take next year too. Im also in Spanish 1 this year, and will take Spanish 2 next year possibly, depends if it is required for college entrance. Right now i have a 4.0 and at the top of my class of around 70. Im not the smartest out there, the UNL math day is Nov 14, and im on our math team, so it'll be interesting to see how i do there. I know i won't be up there with some of the kids. Can't really tell you where you stand w/ ACT, cause I don't know what the AVG is, and what a high score would be. Does Nebraska have like a scholorship program where if you graduate with over a certain GPA, and have a certain ACT/SAT score you can get a % of your college tuition paid? Check into that, Florida has that. Otherwise, you might want to write specific colleges asking about scholorships they offer. I'll have to dig up old scholorship info, but I used to have a webpage that info on scholorships by state. I'll see if I can find it when I get home from class. The bastards going to UF get like $8000 or something for full tuition, but I only get $3352 at a private school because I get the "average" full tuition of public school. aman Posted October 31, 2002 Share Posted October 31, 2002 You haven't said anything about a major yet. There's quite a few major specific scholarships available also. If you research on your PC you might be able to go for free. Set your goal and go for it. I always wanted to be a derelict. I achieved that long ago and aimed even higher. It's nice to know that no matter how things turn out in the future I have something to fall back on. Dont put derelict as a major on your apps. though. I have actually seen a lot of the world, my dad loves to travel. I've all over the US, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, England(mainly London), little of Austria, and Vancoover, Canada. Now you're probably saying, wow he must be rich, why does he need scholarships to go to school. Actually, my dad is a small farmer and money isn't the most excessive thing around here. Pretty much all our airfare was free(parents and 2 brothers). Just some cases of luck with taking bumps on flights can help. I do plan to travel when i get older, and would love to go back to anywhere that i've already been, espicially with a family. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you keep your GPA above 3.5, you'll get a ton of scholarships as 29 is a great score. collegeboard.com will have alot of scholarship info, no reason shouldn't go to college for free. Duck some bullets and kill a couple rebel kidnappers, (but never admit that it happened). You need some heavy duty adrenaline to clear your head enough to make important future decisions. Maybe come along with me and Faf to dig up the tomb underneath the Sphinx right under the worlds nose. It's a secret so only the people on the internet know about it plus you. So the gist of what I'm saying is, Try to think of something that scares you and go kick its butt. Then your choice of major will be easy.
