Vice President Bobby Jindal ?

Featured Replies

Mitt Romney is, IMO, a very credible candidate for the VP spot. He's obviously smart & competent, actually, I now think he was a better candidate than McCain (from the republican side, at least).

Apparently, this guy, Bobby Jindal, is a serious candidate. He's pro life with no exceptions (his words), he supports creationism/ID in the classroom, and he supposedly encountered a demon and practiced an exorcism (Jindall, B. 1994. "Physical Dimensions of Spiritual Warfare", New Oxford Review).

wow.

A Catholic politician who supports creationism/ID in the classroom? I think I know where that demon went after being exorcised.

McCain also made a surprise visit to Louisiana on Monday, and has a secret announcement planned for Thursday in New Orleans, timed to coincide with Obama's Berlin speech. The speech is being touted by McCain workers as intended to steal some of Obama's thunder.

Obama's VP choice is largely irrelevant. Obama is young, and I can probably count with no fingers the number of tie-breaker votes a Democratic VP is going to have to make in a Senate that will be well over 50% Democratic.

On the other hand, McCain's VP choice is critical. There is a good chance he won't make it through a grueling four year presidency. Should he pick the wrong choice (e.g., someone who supports teaching creationism in public schools), I might well have to rethink my current rather strong leaning toward McCain.

This is getting so out of hand. I swear, if a candidate accidently farts too close to someone, the press goes ape-poopy and starts wondering if the person in the down draft is a potential veep. What happened to good reporting and journalism in our country?

Good reporting and journalism doesn't sell enough air freshener.

Seeing that this is a rhetorical question, here are some answers full of rhetoric:

  • Bad reporting and journalism costs a lot less and attracts more viewers.
  • 24 hour headline news (kudos to Firesign Theatre):

Big light in sky slated to appear in East.

Sonic booms scare minority groups in Sector B.

And there's hamburger all over the highway in Mystic, Connecticut.

Those are the headlines and now the rumours behind the news.

  • Television. Imagery tends to have very high emotional content but very low information content.
  • The New York Times, particularly New York Times Company v. Sullivan, 1964.

Absence of Malice is still a great movie even 27 years later.

And how old was the last President to die in office?
