I like the arcade, but I think it will cut into the amount of people actually posting. Maybe you could make a limit for it, otherwise people will just join for the arcade!

I expect that if the arcade idea takes off, it will probably be based on repuation figures and post worthyness anyway

Did anyone notice that in Asteroids when you hit shift you teleport elsewhere?

Yes... hyperspace is a useful last-resort (its risky, you'll often get teleported into the middle of an asteroid) to escape when the thrust won't do it quick enough.

Needs more games really, noticed quite a few around you might want to try.

 

I think it also needs some kind of post count limit or something as well.

it has to be something that you can always do better at and get a higher score.

in that sense, chess wouldn' work, there is a limit to the score.

 

i'd recommend Centipede, or PacMan... or something along those lines

You now need a minimum of 50 posts to play games in the arcade.

Good idea; stop people like monctur just joining to play the arcade anyway.

It shouldn't take monctur long to make 50 posts; I mean it's not like he has any actual work to do.

Well, I average 2.33 posts per day and I'm quite an active poster. Most people take months to get up to 50, unless they have an adjenda to get across in some crazy fashion. Not that I really know much about forum management, but it appears to be a method of encouraging spammyness for gaming reward.

 

Mind you, I'm still a bit bitter about losing tetris high score.

50 posts makes it better to go search for another arcade forum than post to get up to that.

Especially when there are people like me watching like a hawk.

I thought it through, the less people playing the more pausable regaining the high score will be. Now all have have to do is drain my willingness to do other stuff, and get back on the arcade!

well afcourse there are gonna be better games at other sites, this is a science forum but its still kind of nice to be able to get a little badge under ur name saying ur a so&so champ also if my parents ask what im doing i can always tell them im on a science forum site and i still would be telling the truth even though im playing a game.
