On the South Pole you can see majority of Southern Hemisphere stars. But if you're interested in the southern equivalent of the North Pole star, the closest currently is Sigma Octantis.

And which is the nearest galaxy to the South Pole?

I think the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds are the nearest (dwarf) galaxies to the pole that are visible with the naked eye. Apart from our own galaxy, of course. With a telescope, there would be many more distant galaxies closer to the pole.
