  1. That, that sounds like what it was. Just some fancy computer animations for the general public. I do believe it was offered as a possible evolutionary pathway, and not the only one.
  2. Dominant and recessive traits are not black and white. You have to keep in mind that a heterozygous dominant male can mate with homozygous recesive female. You won't know that the male is heterozygous until they have children. If any children express the recessive trait, then the male has to be heterozygous. In this picture a homozygous dominant male mates with homozygous recessive female. All there children are phenotypically dominant, although they are actually heterozygous dominant. In this picture a phenotypically dominant male mate with a recessive female. Becasue it expresses the dominant trait, there is no way to tell whether it is heterozygous or homozygous until it's children are born. Once you get a phenotypically recesive offspring, then the father has to be heterozygous, in order for it's children to recieve two recessive alleles. When creating a pedigree, its important to know what the children are in order to discover the genotype of the parent. In this picture the genotype of the mother is not known. But because on of the children is recessive (not shaded) and the father is phenotypically dominant, we know that the mother is hommozygous recesive, and the father is heterozygous dominant. The punent square would look like this: Or, both parents could be heterozygous Dominant, creating an offspring with recessive traits. The only way to know which situation is true, is to mate the recessive offspring and see what phenotypes occur in it's children. Creating a pedigree can be challenging, but interesting. Keep in mind, however that this form of punnet sqaure can only be used with looking at simple genes. Most phenotypes, in humans especially, are controlled by many genes. Its hard to create a genotype for a trait that is controlled by many different factors. Often times a dominant gene won't be expressed because of another gene controlling it. Hope I helped!
  3. It all comes back to respiration, and the creation of ATP from a proton gradient. Muscles use the actin-myosin to expand/contract. I assume cilia etc., use a similar system.
  4. No, I meant other wave lengths are absorbed and only green light is reflected out.
  5. I remember seeing a program on the discovery channel about this. They seemed to think that, in the event of human removal, then squid would evolve out of the oceans and take our place as the intellegent life form. Any thoughts?
  6. oops, sorry I must have missed it, thanks.

    Mars by 2010?

I'm sorry, I support space exploration, I just don't think Bush is sincere in his efforts to reach mars. 2010? yeah right. I seriously doubt Bush gives a damn about space exploration. Maybe he thinks we'll find oil on Mars. How does he think we'll get to outerspace if he continues to cut spending on non-military research?
  8. I like Fight Club, Princess Monoke, great movie. If you want some laughs, I suggest some Mel Brooks movies: Robin Hood: Men in Tights, History of the World part 1, Silent Movie, To Be or Not to Be, etc. Also I highly recomend The Princess Bride.
  9. It is a big deal Because of it, I can't walk I will maim my dog!
  10. I disagree, I liked the second much better. It concentrated more on plot then mindless killing. (blood looked too fake, by the way) I recomend the 3rd LOTR, extended edition is out now.
  11. They say if you get a quick sleep and wake up before you go into REM, say 15 min. or so, then you feel more refreshed. any truth?

    Mars by 2010?

I think Bush should concentrate on fixing the earth first he send people to f*@! up another planet.
  13. We'll never really know the true answer, that's why so many people endlessly debate it.
  14. That won't always happen. If shot high enough, the ball will not land in the funnel, due to the rotation of the earth. Also why a pendulum will never stay swinging exactly straight.
  15. My dog bit my foot I am in a lot of pain I will kill my dog.
  16. Good scifi/fantasy book dealing with this is the Wrinkle in Time series by Madeline L'engle
  17. Actually it killed about 1/4 of europe's population, not 2/3 of the earth. http://me.essortment.com/bubonicplague_rvdr.htm I heard somewhere that people in europe that are known to be resistant to the bubonic plague also have immunities to AIDs, anyone else hear this, or did I imagine it?
  18. I just meant, that if it doesn't scratch glass, it's not a diamond. However, if it does scratch glass, it may or may not be a diamond.
  19. Sure, but it doesn't effect there genetic codes (skin cancer aside)
  20. A quick test...scratch it against glass, if it doesn't scratch it, it's not a diamond.
  21. then how do explain the theory that the universe will eventually collapse into itslelf. Wouldn't it expanding forever?
  22. Well said Geode. I think a big problem with the majority of people who are against stem-cell research do not understand how it works. Thats partly their own fault, partly the media. The media wants to scare people, so they portray the message that scienctists are taking embryoes and turining them into body parts. Which is obviously not the case.
  23. did they take it offline? Maybe they just moved it. can anyone find it?
