  4. Swansont: that looks alot like alot of the stuff that you can't see in my image because it's too small and most of it's inside black boxes
  5. doubt this will work as on laptop... but: A panaramic of my lab... It's got an ultrafast laser system in it, among other things....
  6. You're require the equation of motion for the rocket, there are many ways of calculating this, the most common way is newtonian mechanics using F=ma, but I'd be tempted to use Legrangian mechanics. You would calculate the energy required to get into orbit by working out the energy required to get to that hight, and the energy required to maintain the orbit. Of course you'd have to take friction into account to get some realistic numbers, as this would be important. If it falls in an uncontrolled manner, it will burn up... You would need to use some radio transmitter/receiver.
  7. Hello you too... Enjoy your stay And for more fun use the chatroom!
  8. Hello and welcome And hi to anyone I've missed...
  9. It doesn't work like that. See http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26532 http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26524 Also for quick forum questions see: http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8699
  10. Hello new people! Don't forget we have a lively and happen IRC channel (SFN Chatroom in the menu above), there's about 10 regulars so feel free to come along and chat but we take some time to reply sometimes so BE PATIENT! Sticky: A thread that stays at the top of a forum, no matter how long ago the most recent post was in it (the rest are ordered by the time that the last post was made) The little green box: People can only see their own, they're related to your reputation points, mine says "Klaynos is on a distinguished road"
  11. A few points, this is on a physics section, therefore the boundaries will be different for it than for biology, although from most of the papers I've seen they seem to be moving more and more to requiring maths. The origin of species was written a long time ago, science has changed since then. There has been significantly more work done on evolution and natural selection since then, how mathematical this is I'm unsure but I'd suspect it to be highly dependent on some nice statistics... Also reading the quote (I've not read his thread) he doesn't say it needs maths to be a theory, but it DOES need to be predictive which in the context of physics always (to the best of my knowledge) requires mathematics.
  12. Still a scientifically ignorant spam monkey, but with a red name? And HELLO! to everyone who's joined or returned
  13. Come to Exeter, WE ROCK!!! (I'm not a big fan of Bath and never looked around Durham, and I am just a tiny ickle bit biased) and hello Leto, enjoy being here ;D

  15. Hello SyedAmeen, did you read the first post in this thread? http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showpost.php?p=201216&postcount=1 If not please do so.
  16. Where you doing your masters? It a UG one? Here at Exeter we've just taken on our last lot of theorists, or maybe that was last year.... all the modules are just options now, just no set named degree, too few people applying
