  1. There are multiple variables as to why people have religion. I would say it's mostly due to patching up a subconscious fear, as the thought of death can cause people to need something. Something that reassures a narcissistic mindset. A mindset that nature has instilled in us to survive. We survived off a mindset like this. Now the Homosapien does not need it as much as say something else in our evolutionary history.I find it that some just have a hard time making the transmission, I think we as a species needs certain types of activity to stimulate a healthy brain. Being brainwashed doesn't help either and I completely agree with that. All the same, we mustn't mess with environmentally shaped crazy folks. If you absolutely must discuss discuss logic with them, be sure they can understand some of it first.
  2. I wonder what the history of the diaper is? How long have humans worn diapers, did the middle ages, egyption, meso-americans, maybe even before homo sapiens? My son has had me wondering this for awhile and I can't find anything about it online.
  3. People have their own reasons for religion. I find it best to let people believe what they want to. I think this just goes to show that intelligence is measured in more than only a standard perspective. Regardless, our species has come a long way. From fighting over resources with sticks, to fighting over resources and religion with an arsenal of advanced weaponry. To trying to avoid war and settle conflicts, end slavery, end bigotry. Everything in life evolves, I'm sure a day in which people have a general consensus of understanding life and science will be upon us soon. So let people believe what they want.
  4. In my Novel, the species is a cyborg that creates the human race as a science experiment. They communicate telepathically via computers implanted in their brains while still in a synthetic womb. They have sustained life for so long breeding through test tubes that they evolved out of the environmental pressures of reproductive organs. An A-sexual species that communicates as one, with all thoughts/memories processed through and stored on a computer. Individuals die and in a way their consciousness does not, they actually embrace euthanasia as a means of population control. Only killed by foreign instances, mastered their own genetics. That's just a little summary, as to give you an idea. Now they want the humans to communicate with them, and on their own terms. Remember it's an experiment, I don't want to spoil the book! I'm about halfway done with it. That's why I have my main character devise a universal language. The math is concrete, I should have thought of that! I suppose if a species were to meet, it would be the more technologically intelligence inclined species to do the calling of said language. Hadn't really thought of it that way.
  5. What if being created in gods image is a metaphor, and the universe is god?

      Lightmeow

Some people think about it like that, but most Christians think that god is a man

  6. How would we go about communicating with a species alien to our home planet? one more advanced than us. When we communicate with other species, dogs can understand verbal commands even primates can understand sign language. However could this be far more complicated with an alien species? In my book, one of my main characters invents a language of pictures. He finds constants in nature on earth, then uses that to communicate with a much more advanced species. What do y'all think? Could my idea actually work or is there a more efficient, maybe even less complicated way we could communicate?
  7. Yes I did.... my friends seem to believe it's the work of chemtrails and conspiracy... I was hoping a thread on SF might change their minds.
  8. I've seen multiple reports of this on Facebook. Can this be explained? http://www.wdbj7.com/weather/why-this-weeks-snow-wasnt-normal/-/20128370/24210298/-/ubbcty/-/index.html explanation?

  10. If we valued education here in America like we value the glamorized lives of celebrities, the possibilities could be endless.

  11. Swansont - But why haven't they worked? Go look at the links I posted, it's in the context of this start system and other excerpts online that I keep seeing this. Talking about how general relativity breaks down under extreme conditions and isn't compatible with QM? Or is this all hogwash? Thankyou very much Enthalpy, also I LOL'd when I read please take with caution. Thankyou for clearing that up though as that is the best indication of significance of this star system for testing GR equivalence principle that I have found.
  12. Misanthropy ensues when the expectations that are founded by religion and unrealistic ideals are not met. We are a species, we are no more or better than animals. This is the purest answer for all of our worldly problems from greedy in-distribution of resources to war. It's this kind of thinking that takes away the beauty from life, the artistic compatibility of science and aesthetics. This kind of thinking can build misanthropy by focusing on the negative now and not the amazement of how...

far we have come with how far opportunity we have.

  13. So this star system is sapposed to be the best test for general relativity we have? How could this break the equivalency principle, what we we look for to see this? Side question - Why does general relativity break down at some point under quantum mechanics or not agree with quantum mechanize? i've been reading this claim alot. http://www.nature.com/news/massive-double-star-is-latest-test-for-einstein-s-gravity-theory-1.12880 http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-01/06/triple-star-system
  14. Grayson Adam Jones, will be here within 13 days. I can't wait, all the memories were going to make together. I'm happy and scared at the same time, I want to be the best parent I can while being able to be a friend and someone for him to look up to. Also, isn't his name just badass? Grayson Adam Jones, has kind of a founding father sort of ring to it.

For me it works because all the bad/harmful/fun things I do that make me feel like crap take place in the evening/night/early morning. ie If you are rising and sleeping with the sun there is little chance of drinking too much bad vodka in soho nightclubs (thursday - yuck)

yes, imatfaal,i feel the same way. why is it easy to feel bad at night ??

  17. Wow, thankyou ewmon. That's definitely a good bit of information as to what I was asking for that you organized for me. Thankyou, you're awesome! arc, sounds pretty legit to me.
  18. 0_- well I wrote this thread because I want to see how much language has evolved with being able to have an estimate of the biggest inclines in complexity of language in different intervals of time. Really the big picture of me asking these questions is I want to show just how fast us humans are evolving and not evolution of our physical adaptations but our mental adaptations to comprehending and understand our physical world. I'm hoping to portray in a positive light how fast our mental capabilities are evolving.
  19. I wouldn't say governments create morality. Morality or whatever you want to label it, stems from our Morales, ethics, what we think is right and wrong. This is all relative to our perspective, different cultures can have different Morales. As with different governments. However morality between different governments still has more in common than different. Morality is something that has arisen among our awareness of others. Morality is something that we have evolved. Notice most Morales commonly shared are about killing and really dark things that have been norms in the homo sapiens evolutionary past. You can't say that governments enforce morality, you can say that governments condone opposing of physical infringement between one another.
  20. Free will does not exist, it is certain and always present. It is the infringement of a "free will," barrier, or obstacle. That actually makes you think there is the concept of a "free will." #Perception #Relativity #Swag
  21. Beowulf, Chaucer, and Shakespeare can give a good idea, not much in the context of why I'm asking these questions though. I want to contrast from the beginning of spoken language to now, reflecting how much we communicate, the complexity of it, and the increases of that through the years. I'm not looking for anything 100% accurate, just a crude model.
  22. How did it start? I would assume from a language of gestures then recognized sound and tone evoked into different increments of emitted noise? How many words are there in each language? How many words, hard question to ask but does anybody have a good estimate? How many different utterances of noise are their in each language? How complex, or difference in utterance of noise patterns are there? How many more words and utterances are there now compared to from where spoken language first arrised? What were the first words? I'm guessing hunting and labeling environment? Where did it stem from there? I'm gatheric information to see just how much language has evolved
  23. Hmmm maybe thats why I couldn't finish eating it. Next time I'll be sure to unwrap it. Maybe I'll try purple then sense your recommend the blue.
