  1. Sorry, didn't mean to frustrate you.

When you make a new thread, it is not attached to this one. It's completely separate. The only way I found it was by going through the "Today's Posts" section at the top of this page. It's right at the top next to the little orange square.

I would recommend putting a picture of the slide in this thread, so people can directly see it. You can do that by clicking "edit" underneath your original post at the top, and pasting the link to the slide like you did in the other thread.

Hopefully I'm not just confusing you more.

Anyway, good luck. Hope you figure out what it is :)

  2. Thanks for replying. BTW: I tried tea tree oil and permethrin cream (did not take away the itching/prickly feeling). Can you see the slides I posted?

Skin problems are terrible. :( but don't worry, you will get it fixed. the fact that your blood work is normal is good. did any of those things slightly help more than the others? did any of them have an affect, even if it was extremely minute?

yes, I see the slide, but I am not a doctor so it won't help me help you. sorry :(

  3. candida overgrowth? your diet sounds good though... however i think once an overgrowth develops, a diet wont fix it. if there's a candida overgrowth in your intestines, and in your skin, it could be affecting your whole body... try seeing if acidophilus tablets in your diet will help. sugar is hidden in a lot of things which feeds candida.

maybe try tea tree oil topically? you can dilute it and apply it to your skin. it supposedly is anti fungal and anti bacterial....

if you think it's parasitic, get some over the counter permethrin cream...

it could also be viral, though.

regardless, until you find out what it is, make sure you drink a lot of water, as it helps flush things out of your body and keep it from being stagnant.

make sure your environment is clean, wear a lot of cotton so your skin can breath, and shower frequently... exfoliate.... use a cleanser with salicylic acid and maybe a benzoyl peroxide cream to see if it helps....

  4. Wow, that's quite a mouthful. There is no way I can be convinced that masturbation in itself can cause alienation with having sex with a partner. There are all kinds of mental conditions that cause alienation and intimacy problems. Sexual release isn't just a bodily function, it has profound emotional and mental effects. Sexual repression can cause all kinds of problems. Humans hardly need to rely on the opposite sex and gratification is the lowest common denominator. Sexual intimacy with another in a healthy state is an extremely nurturing exchange. But even masturbation uses fantasy to stimulate, so it isn't entirely without another person.

    Thomas

That's true. What if you are asexual, and have no attraction to anyone. Will your body still need sexual release based on hormones?

  5. @StringJunky - For me, my OMNIX is the ultimate truth: each element of the universe as (one, many, all, none) repeated to infinity. See the attachment.

@Phy - I just wrote that in my journal, there are four kind of paths in a society: the path chosen by the majority, the path chosen by a group, the path chosen by only one man and the path that no one choses. The path of the majority leads to eternal loop, that's why every generation of humans repeats the same steps, the path of a group leads to corruption and in other directions. I liked to choose my only unique way(that's why I survived to all this experiences) and the way that no one will chose (not playing to lottery). The most certain future looks like this: either everyone gets his own personal universe (with his personalized sceince, personalized planets, everything as he wishes, just like a god) and only if that person want to be in a group with an other human and share elements from his private universe, this to happen. Otherwise there will be no long term future for humans, since humans as a majority never changed - if you will get back in time 30.000 you will see that the majority had the same behaviour.

Lottery is an unnatural system. If you can convince all the people who play to lottery to give me the money, I will have no ethical problem to accept the money. Or, change the system with a natural one: instead of a machine choosing some numbers, let a pet or an insect choose still 6 elements from 49 like, let's say, colors or forms, it doesn't matter. That day when this natural system will exist, you will see me playing and winning.

Because I always followed the natural way and I always got away safe and managed to stay alive after so many accidents, not even all the money from lottery constitute a reason to change my path with an unnatural one. It is predictible that if I'll change the path and win, the next day I'll die or become parralized or any other thing that will stop me using those money. So what's the point of heaving money if I can't spend them?

Pretty interesting to me personally. In christian esoteric books I have read, it states that there are numerous kingdoms. Mineral, plant, animal, human. The previous one is a level below in evolution. But as we are humans, we were animals before that, with humans who are now angels influencing us. There is an ongoing spiral, forever. It says the animal kingdom is one entity manifesting into all animals, which is why they all look similar (dog to dog) and why they don't really have independent, creative thought. Humans are their own entity manifesting into one body, and we have our own creative identity, which is why for example, two identical twins can appear to look different & act differently- this shows they're two different entities. Everything follows a specific pattern, like a spiral, each ring on the spiral is a little different than the previous one. Each time a new group graduates to the next level, so does the one before it... through mineral, plant, animal, human, etc... and with every revolution, the group is more advanced. The angels that were humans when we were animals guide us, but when we evolve to angels we will be more advanced than them in that stage.

I've also read in these same books that when we purify our thoughts completely, our creative function will be perfected, and essentially we will be able to create our own universe... something along the lines with what you were saying. It also means that our current universe is just the thought & creative result of one superior entity.

  6. Left-field question. If complete sexual gratification is received from oneself, without the opposite sex... can you lose all motivation to interact sexually with others, if you never identified sex as involving someone else? Can you view sexual release simply as another bodily function as opposed to an act that takes two to tango? Basically, if you don't rely on the opposite sex for gratification, does anything happen psychologically? Do you not equate sexual satisfaction with another person?

  7. Yes. Very good question.

As soon as a beginning has been initiated, the idea is that the universe has also an end story... what this end could be is a number of things.

Is there a common feature of all observers? Like, can only something that consists of a type of particle, or being in a certain state, make an observer?

    also, what are neutrinos?

  8. You link did not say that they could not experience sexual arousal and other scientific investigations dispute this quite nicely, An extensive study in the 1950's showed exactly the opposite with infant females being able to lubricate and orgasm and infant males being able to get erects and orgasm as well. I know that by age five i could both get an erection and have an orgasm and little girls can indeed have orgasms as well.

I never said you did either. I was just further supporting my argument that it's not OK to have sex with kids, even if they could.... which is what your disturbing facts above imply.

I'm almost positive you wouldn't suggest that. I wasn't trying to say you were tongue.gif

  9. Moontanman, to respond to you with the whole infant being aroused thing...

I still think society's morals should be greater than anything nature seems to imply. The human body is imperfect. We have vestigial organs. Just because a child CAN have sex, or can show signs of arousal, does NOT mean they should be having sex with anyone.

Take a random example of Pica. It's an urge to eat non-food (sometimes hazardous) items. It's often brought on by the physical change of pregnancy. So if a physical change explains the urge, it does not mean that the urge should be followed through with... or plenty of pregnant women would be poisoned and die. Just as the physical change of arousal in a child should not mean they should follow through with the possible urge of sex.

I like to think we are perfect beings, in imperfect bodies. As we evolve, we err away from our natural urges, and use logic to take the place of primitive tendencies.

    This is just my opinion.

  10. I'm going to give my own opinion on society's views of sex....

I think the stereotypical parent's view on sex in childhood can lead our youth to suppress their first sexual urges & not be comfortable talking about it... they think sex is taboo. I think this leads to a sex-revolved society fueled by curiosity from innate urges that were suppressed.

If sex is treated like any other bodily function, like eating, you separate it from your logical self. You say, "I am in a body that needs this." not, "I need this"

People are too focused on sex these days. Instead of judging people for their thoughts, ideas, and characteristics that are separate from gender or any other type of physical attribute, they are blinded by superficial things....

I think by bringing a normal amount of attention on sex, you actually prevent an unhealthy focus on it.

  11. Sure, that's kind of the question. Metaphysically, I'm a physicalist--I think the brain is just made out of stuff like everything else is, and its interesting functionality is a property of the stuff it's made of. Eventually, I imagine, we'll recreate it, or perhaps create something better or different than it. It's just sort of an engineering problem which we'll figure out eventually. From a naive perspective, a lot of people imagine AI in a way that's a bit anthropomorphic, but there are lots of ways a machine (or indeed, "being") might be intelligent that is different than the way the 3lb blob of goop contained within members of h. sapiens produces intelligence. So maybe we won't be able to recreate human intelligence, but we'll still create a creature that's intelligent in some fashion. To be honest, we might end up creating something so different (and perhaps even more advanced) than ourselves that we'd even have trouble recognizing what we've made. The best way we'd even have to do that, at this point, is still somewhat imperfect and controversial. There are lots of interesting arguments to be had and read in metaphysics, philosophy of mind, consciousness studies, or AI that deal with whether or not this might be possible, and how. But I tend to think we'll settle the question of whether or not we can do it when we do it.

Thanks for the response! I have some questions though tongue.gif

Computers use the same logic as us, just on a less evolved scale. It still makes sense, therefore it's intelligent in some way. So if there is a machine whose intelligence differed from ours, it would be totally incomprehensible, right? What I'm trying to say is that intelligence isn't based on whatever we want- it's based on how well we perceive the universe and constant laws around us. So in order to even define anything as "intelligent" it would have to comprehend it's surroundings the same way as we do... which means it would not differ. If it does differ, it wouldn't be intelligent. We are just beings picking up on constant laws. If our race ceases to exist, the laws of our universe still will. If intelligence sprouted again, it would have to follow the same logic we did.

So how could we call something that doesn't follow our logic, intelligent?

Also, how can we model & create something more advanced than ourselves? How can our brain create a structure more complex than itself? Kind of reminds me of the omnipotence paradox a little bit.

A thought that kind of terrifies me is this.... A computer uses it's preset functions to complete a specified task, like a standard calculator... it's kind of similar to memorization of reactions. As humans, we can memorize the logical approach to THOUSANDS of specified tasks. Our conscious is the ability to discern when to use the logic of the numerous tasks we have memorized. It seems like we're just one step beyond computers, and this is only because silicon technology is replaced with better materials. No magic involved.

And while I'm here, talking to someone educated on these things, is there anything that's unique to the brain? Like a chemical? I was reading a strange christian-esoteric book that said a specific element was... and the amount of it was responsible for the level of intelligence. Lol.

  12. That's a topic of some pretty substantial philosophical debate.

Awesome... I have never heard of this experiment. It goes exactly with what I was trying to say. Thanks a lot for sharing! :)

I guess the essential question is,

Comparing a human's decision to a machine's (like in the Chinese Room experiment) where is the difference?

Is the brain a high functioning machine we can't reconstruct with our technology right now, or is there an outside source that makes humans unique that we will NEVER be able to recreate?

  13. Well, I think memorizing is different from understanding a concept.

You can memorize the specifics of formulas, but if you don't grasp the concept of how it applies to other things, then it's just memorization. This doesn't really mean intelligence.

Other species, like chimps, have outperformed us in memory tests.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7124156.stm

So if chimps are better at some cognitive tasks like memorization, what signifies intelligence? Why is the human race still superior? I think that's where intelligence comes into play.

  14. I don't think it is really fair to compare it with religion, which everyone knows is just made up really has been proved to be.

There is a fundamental answer based in science to this question on an individual basis anyway, the problem is this age differs from person to person and therefore you have to set the bar high to encompass most people as with anything rules are designed to protect, whether they work out achieving that in some cases isn't so.

I don't really see an argument for being allowed to have sex with anyone who can't full understand the consequences and effects of the actions but at what age that is, is hard to determine. The real problem is that children don't really understand long term consequences such as getting pregnant, so even if you full understand the practicality of the act should they be allowed to be involved without full education of their actions.

The ironic consequence of this argument is that most adults are allow to do many things (smoke, drink) without understanding the biological effects that occur, so really is the idea of understanding consequence even relevant.

I would personally say that a note of caution should be taken as people are hardwire to try and protect there own from harm and in most cases it has nothing to do with protecting children from the act itself but its consequences both physiological (pregnancy, infection) and social (peer rejection, legal issues, false emotional attachment).

Sex isn't actually the problem, it is societies attitude towards it.

The idea of understanding consequence is relevant; children are physically inept at understanding consequence.

The biological affects of smoking & drinking are very accessible to any adult. I can't even watch television without seeing anti-smoking ad's riddled with facts on it's biological effects.

  15. @ Phi- Thank you so much! :) Ideally I would use a more pure source, but I'm a little lazy.

Is it not possible to sexually abuse a child without being a pedophile?

I can imagine there are a number of other reasons to commit sexual abuse, such as anger or a desire for power. One must also distinguish between pedophilia (which only applies to desire for prepubescent children) and ephebophilia.

    http://www.childmole...s/research.html

this is another source from a biased organization.. :)

In the abel & harlow child molestation prevention study, it says that 88 percent of child sexual abuse victims are molested by people with pedophilia.

I don't know how accurate their study is, but the author seems pretty legit.

  16. No sickness, no pain, no death, no work, food taken care of, perfect temperature, no rain, animals lived in harmony with one another and humans... What wasn't perfect?

OK assuming that the Bible says that,

without sickness & pain, would we attach too much to our physical existence? we would be in a constant state of euphoria.... and when death arrives, like a drunkard afraid to give up his booze, we would miss our body, the one we are GUARANTEED to lose with death.

without work, without the struggle for food, would we have ANY self-worth? or would we be a useless piece of furniture decorating god's living room.

without death, we would be confined to the limits of our universe, only capable of understanding time, space and physical existence... only capable of comprehending what we can see around us.

I don't see anything perfect about that situation... the ability to refine ourselves is a gift, to perfect our flaws. not to merely exist as a subordinate creation.

and on top of that, I love the rain =)

  17. Ok I went on google. Here you go.

"Adult retrospective studies show that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men were sexually abused before the age of 18 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2006). This means there are more than 42 million adult survivors of child sexual abuse in the U.S."

"Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults (including assaults on adults) occur to children ages 17 and under"

    source is http://www.d2l.org/s...exual_Abuse.htm

So yes, I would say that this proves we have a substantial number of pedos around us... I did my research, now find a statistic about white supremacist recruiting :)

So now we have established that a large number of people have been sexually abused before the age of 18. here are the affects of that.

    Take this statistic for example-

"Approximately 95% of teenage prostitutes have been sexually abused. Source: CCPCA, 1992."

I'm sure you'll try telling me prostitution is not detrimental to society..... but trust me on this one it is. & I'm too lazy to look up more stuff.

this is why the fear is so widespread. Because it has huge impacts on individuals & society.

Now, if you try to support the argument of a curious child engaging in sexual acts with an adult willingly, I'll give you this. Children usually don't reach sexual maturity until 17. (http://www.nlm.nih.g...icle/001950.htm) Before that age, their reproductive systems haven't finished developing and they can't technically feel arousal. If they aren't aroused, then they are not really engaging in sex. The brain isn't going through the same thing that happens with sexual stimulation in adults. If they aren't aroused, sex can also be painful. Even if a child claims they wanted to have sex, EVEN if they are 17 and sexually mature, it still technically can't be consensual.... The prefrontal cortex in children isn't fully developed until as late as 25, which affects decision-making. http://www.hhs.gov/o...ex/index.html#3 So what I'm saying is sex involves changes in the body & in the brain... both of which children are incapable of experiencing until sexual maturity. & even if they matured early, it's still not consensual. Therefore, any sexual act with a child is sexual abuse. Leading to all of the major, damaging affects I listed above.

  18. I agree that children have to be protected from being taken advantage of by adults, my own experiences bear that out, adults do not play the same way children do but if we protect children from sexual contact with adults because it might harm them why is sex the biggie and other forms of obvious psychological harm are ok? Think of the children of the West burro baptist church, (is that behavior consensual?) they are being abused terribly, far worse than being "bad touched by an adult" , those adults are taking advantage of their children to make them follow an agenda of hate and love of hate, the harm is not a "might be thing" why is sex so special?

Think of kids marching with the KKK, they have their own cute little white hooded robes :( there are others but i think you can see where i am going. Why is sex considered so harmful and other things just as harmful if not worse allowed? is sex really the "fate worse than death?" Or is it that Virginity still is a treasure beyond price? (that implies that women are still chattel) I think it has to do with the Abrahamic mythos and it's sexual suppression as interpreted by the Victorians, although if you actually read the bible it does contain child sexual molestation being allowed by god as long as it was the children of the enemy.... I just think it's telling our society is so obsessed with controlling sex but allows other things even more despicable.

because there are a ton of pedos all around us. more of those than kkk members trying to recruit your kids. if there werent laws that could throw them in jail they wouldnt be scared of trying to seduce children. would you want a 45 year old creeper pursuing your 12 year old daughter?

  19. I believe in God because God gave me faith to believe in God. I believe Jesus Christ is God because God gave me faith to believe that. I believe the King James Bible is true and perfect because God gave me the faith to believe it. God has also proven himself to me in many ways, including this past summer's employment as a live-in maintenance man at an all girls camp during which I was able to pay off my debts, this, despite having at one time sold illegal drugs, etc. God is able to do all things because God is God .. and God is Love. I found God when searching for the Truth and discovered that God is the truth.

P.S. The tree in the garden of Eden was not the tree of knowledge, it was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:17 (Whole Chapter)

ok, why wouldnt he want us to be able to discern between good & evil?

  20. "Oktoberfest with coca-cola" ????

As Appolinaria pointed out, this is a Science Forum: you cannot seriously support your claims with a reference that spreads over the web such a nonsense.

Michel, you are a genius... please keep supporting my dictatorship over this thread and I shall knight you.
