  1. Well, last Monday, my brother got up again around 12 a.m. while we were all sleeping and fell and broke his left ankle. He now has two broken ankles. :'( After explaining the situation with the hospital's case worker, she recommended that he goes to a nursing home for the next 3 - 6 months so that he can get the proper medical care while his ankles heal.

Sorry it took all of these comments to write this out, but I've been very frustrated these past 3 weeks and needed to get this off of my chest so-to-speak.

Finally, logic and reason won the battle, and my poor brother who is in a tremendous amount of pain is finally getting the medical care that he needs. My stress levels have finally come down, my niece and I are no longer worried about her dad, and we are going to make it through this.

We all warned him several hundred times that he would end up breaking his ankles if he tried to get out of bed while he was on his medications, and that is exactly what happened the first time. We all warned him again several hundred times that he would end up breaking his other ankle if he kept trying to get out of bed while on his medications, which he ended up doing.

Not to be an asshole, but all of this could've been avoided. Alizah, my sister, and I were there to help him get his medications, get him to the doctor, feed him three time per day, and I was even helping him get dressed, and that was before he broke any of his ankles.

I even researched both nursing homes that the hospital's case worker suggested and was able to get him into the one that had the best reviews.

After several hours of debate, he finally admitted that he needed to go to the nursing home, and I was able to take him to the doctor appointment the next day where the surgeon decided to do the surgeries on both ankles at the same time so that he would only have to spend the next 3 - 4 months in the nursing home.

However, he quite literally weighs 300 lbs. and it took 5 of us to pick him up with him the in wheelchair just to get him on the front porch. Once he was inside the house, his wheelchair wouldn't even fit within the hallways or the doors to the bedrooms or bathrooms.

After discussing everything with my brother and the family, he refused to go to the nursing home. Now, I completely understand why he doesn't want to go, but I can't take off from work for the next 3 - 6 months to take care of all of his medical and daily needs, which means that his daughter or my sister would have to take care of the potty situation and my sister would have to try and get him to his doctor appointments.

You see, I take care of my mother who is bedridden because she has Parkinson disease, my brother who weighs 300 lbs. and has to have several more neck and back fusion surgeries including one where they have to go in from the front and temporarily remove his guts to fuse his spine, and his daughter / my niece, Alizah, who is 15 years old and still in high school.

  11. Wow!!! What a crazy night. My brother is on new medications for his pain and to help him sleep. Around 12 am last night while everyone was asleep, he got up to get him a drink of water and ended up falling and breaking his right ankle. He eneded up snapping it to the right about 40 degrees. I didn't get to bed until 4 am and had to be up at 7 am to take my niece to school and get to work.

  18. I have finally made a break through on the Collatz conjecture. Although I still cannot prove the conjecture, my work has allowed me to create two new challenges, one which will be the toughest one yet... I'll have them posted as soon as I can find the time to write them up. :D

Furthermore, 2^x does produce even numbers, but not all of them as it is easy to show that all even number are based on odd numbers and factors of two.

Unity+, please see the comment I posted to your thread regarding hailstone sequences starting with factors of three. I can show that 9 will reduce to 7. 3(9)+1 = 28. 28 / 2^2 = 7. Thus, 7 does not start the hailstone sequence.

This proves that odd numbers of the form (6 x n - 3) for n >= 1 can only start a hailstone sequence and will never occur in a sequence resulting from previous iterations. So, I've proposed another conjecture that all hailstone sequences start with an odd number that contains a factor of 3.

      From the odd rule we know (even = 3 x odd + 1) such that (odd = (even - 1) / 3). Given that all even numbers are odd numbers that contain factors of 2 or (odd x 2^m) we can show that (odd = (((6 x n - 3) x 2^m) - 1) / 3) will never produce integer / natural number results because after we divide the 3 we get: ((2 x n - 1) x 2^m) - 1/3.

John, in actuality, N goes on to infinity and will never cease. However, I'm hoping to show how all odd numbers are accounted for as N approaches infinity. I've already proven that odd numbers will never produce another odd number that contains factors of three.

You got it John :D That's exactly how it works. The cool thing is that there are as many variable as N. So, all the odd numbers that take 100 iterations to reduce to one has 100 variables. I plan on getting a lot of the work done this weekend so I can post the results. As the Sr. Software Engineer for the company I work for, I've been extremely busy. So, I don't get much time after work to play.
