  5. nice to know about his other languages as well!!! i prefer visual basic although at the moment ive just touched upon it. Done a bit of SQL, that was not bad.
  6. okey dokey i have worked out the limits according to me i get: 1st integral: 0 : 1 2nd integral: 0 : 2-2x 3rd integral: 0 : (2-y-2x)/2 i have worked this out by dz dy dx and i get the volume to be 1. can some one verify that 4 me. thanx oh by the way Neurocomp2003 i am really appreciating ur help!!! thanx alot
  7. yep i get the diagram, to find the equation of the plane, is it possible to let the two equations equal each other, ie, 1-x=1-(y/2) simplified to z = 2-y-2x as this connects x and y.

  9. i think i should explain my situation, i have come back to maths after some time, and im in a situation where i cannot ask any one as this is a course is studied from home. no one i know, knows integration, therefore i was getting help from u guys, as i then know if im heading the right way.
  10. i need to find the volume bounded by x + z = 1 and y + 2z=2 in the positive quadrant ive worked out the co-ordinates which are: x(1,0,0) y(0,2,0) Z(0,0,1) how do i find out the limits to put for the three integrals. i think the first integral is going to be: 0 to (1-z) 2nd integral: 0 to (2-2z)/2 but im not sure about these two either can some clarify for me if im going about this the right way. im not sure about the third one. can any one help. thanx
  11. i dont understand, i get (-2R^2)^3/2 - (R^2)^3/2 after i substitued 0:R and then wen i do the final integral i get: 1/3 int 0 to 2pi (-2R^2)^3/2 - (R^2)^3/2 d theta after this im confused, how do u go about subtracting that.
  12. yep i get that and i also get -2/3 outside the integrals, which i multilply right at the end. but even with that u dont get R^3 in the final answer. this is wat i get wen i have to put the limits of 0 and R in: 1/3 int(0 to 2 pi {(R^2 - r^2)^3/2)} and the limits 0 and R is dis wat ne of u get wen u tried it.

  15. pi is in der but as the last integral, the integrals can be seen in the attachment these are the cylndrical co-ordinates. Try working it out and then u will c how i have got the integral above. I cant do this using spherical co-ordinates and have to do it either the original way or by changing the co-ordinated to cyclindrical which i find easier, as i have tried to do it normally ie dz dy dx and got very confused. by the way have i got my limits for the second integral correct, im thinking it should be -R to R and not 0 to R, but not sure, please correct me on that as well. thanks
  16. hi im trying to prove the volume of a sphere using triple integration and im stuck at how to integrate: ((R^2)- (r^2))^1/2 - {- ((R^2) - (r^2))}^1/2 r dr ive changed my limits to cylndrical limits and R is the radius. ive done the working out but im not getting ne where. please helpppppppp.
  17. dats understandable, but then how can you tell if a situation is for a negative binomial distribution or for a positive binomial distribution. what im trying to find out is what the relationship is between the two distributions, and some situations that can be related to them.
  18. hi, how can you tell if a situation follows a binomial distribution, for example, a coin, if a coin is tossed until 5 heads have appeared. then this follows a binmoial distribution as the prob is constant and also its independent. however, if we are considering number of cars passing along, until 7 red cars have gone past, then would this follow a binomial distribution? im confused on recognising a binomail distribution, can some one help me please. thanx.
  19. i thougut varchar(2) sets a maximum length. So what kind oif script checker do i need to check the length?
  20. I disagee. Whether or not your career is maths based, you should know the maths behind it. Maths is in every career, and all the answers you derive, have got a mathematical explanation behind it (which most people dont realise of). I think understanding the concept of maths is essential, having a calc especailly ti-89 is detrimental, as it undermines all theories,and the techniques.
  21. I agree with u but now a days the uni are wanting students to use the ti-89 to investigate the behaviour of functions. Personally i feel the students should not use the ti-89 as they are not building their conceptual understanding by the theory behind the answer. so if u were a student now, how would u say the ti-89 has benfited u ?
  22. Hi, Im trying to create a constraint which will have a fixed length of 10. The constraint i have used is: CHAR(10)constraint Now according to the books "CHAR" should be a fixed length, in my terms a fixed length of 10, however, i have just tried to insert some values consisting of 9 characters and it was accepted. Do i need to add something to the constraint to allow the user to input exactly a fixed length of 10?
  23. Hi, For people who use the ti-89 what would you say the advantages and dis-advanatges are from a teachers point of view and a students point of view. From the teachers point of view: -One disadvantage is that the students do not get to learn the method behind the answer, so they will lack in this skill. From the students point of view: -Easy to use -Less work for them What else would you guys say?
