  1. Why did building 7 near the twin towers also collapse? Wasn't it at least 200 metres from them?
  2. The thing is I have absolutely no rational reason to believe what you or others tell me about what will happen to me after I die(if anything), and neither do you for that matter. I have no doubt that most ppl would want what you offer, and may be part the reason a lot of ppl are devoutly religious. I can understand this too, it is something we will believe simply because we want to believe. Thinking about your question however, I have come to a few deductions. It seems that you are suggesting that I would be carrying out my actions in my current life by thinking of the reward I would receive. To me, this does not seem right. Happiness seems to me a very subtle emotion arising out of the actions we do and how our overall enviroment around us interacts with us. It does not seem to me something you would blissfully experience throughout the rest of your existence, nor something you would truly appreciate or notice without experiencing the opposite emotions. To me it seems, we should not try and seek a world of happiness, and by doing so allow ourselves to become hostages to the ups and of this world we inhabit, avoiding material attachment. We should try and see beyond it. I guess in the end our religious beliefs are not things that are not born out of rationality, but come from a deeper feeling or instinct we all posess. My own religious beliefs(philosophy, I'm not sure how best to describe it) differ from yours, but I have no way of really being able to make a rational argument over mine or yours, as the 2 are not a product of it ultimately. To me atheism seems to be one of the most pragmatic philosophies(if it is one), for example by the principle of occam's razr, but ultimately this does not affect me. Perhaps there is a limit to what we can comprehend...
  3. Holy cow I suck:-p ! I can't get past level 4! I'll try this again later... thanks for the info Steph.
  4. Would anyone like to discuss aspects of the movie, and ideas covered in it, having seen it?
  5. Yeah I think I got a bit carried away, and I was also thinking that this thread might just drift into obscurity.
  6. Perhaps he/she(it's irrelevant anyway) is outside the realm of cause and effect, and so cannot be conceptualised accurately with this kind of analogy. I don't know... perhaps we just believe in God because it helps us get through our lives. There are plenty of ppl who don't start believing in God, or seek God until bad things start happening in their life(or if they experienced a miracle). For example I was reading a letter writte by a muslim girl in Iraq who said if it wasn't for her faith, she couldn't have coped with life. I guess this could also explain why atheism is generally more prevalent in developed/westernized nations(excluding the US).
  7. Inspite of what I have said on this thread I do agree with you! I found it quite amusing when hearing how easy it was to hack into those computers! Also do you really think he was loggin on to these computers for 2 years just because of his egotistical, antiestablishment, anarchist personality or worldview? He's got to have been viewing something interesting(even if it's not what he claimed). Heck if I had the capabillity to do this, and knew a way to do it whereby I wouldn't get caught, I might consider even doing the same thing(just to satisfy my curiosity)! I am still suspiscious of him though. What would you do if you saw a real UFO image on java remote viewer? PRESS PRINT SCREEN! Also, he said just happened to be caught when he accessed the image. I guess it does sound like bs now...
  8. Many of you may have heard of the relatively recent news about a British hacker, Gary McKinnon facing extradidation to a military tribunal in the US. For a few years he was able to snoop through computers at the department of defense, NASA, etc, etc, etc. He said he was searching for information about UFOs, secret technology as well as free energy technology! Even more shockingly he said he found what he was looking for, and I quote from a BBC interview he gave: "SK: Did you find what you were looking for? GM: Yes. SK: Tell us about it. GM: There was a group called the Disclosure Project. They published a book which had 400 expert witnesses ranging from civilian air traffic controllers, through military radar operators, right up to the chaps who were responsible for whether or not to launch nuclear missiles. They are some very credible, relied upon people, all saying yes, there is UFO technology, there's anti-gravity, there's free energy, and it's extra-terrestrial in origin, and we've captured spacecraft and reverse-engineered it. SK: What did you find inside Nasa? GM: One of these people was a Nasa photographic expert, and she said that in building eight of Johnson Space Centre they regularly airbrushed out images of UFOs from the high-resolution satellite imaging. What she said was there was there: there were folders called "filtered" and "unfiltered", "processed" and "raw", something like that. I got one picture out of the folder, and bearing in mind this is a 56k dial-up, so a very slow internet connection, in dial-up days, using the remote control programme I turned the colour down to 4bit colour and the screen resolution really, really low, and even then the picture was still juddering as it came onto the screen. But what came on to the screen was amazing. It was a culmination of all my efforts. It was a picture of something that definitely wasn't man-made. It was above the Earth's hemisphere. It kind of looked like a satellite. It was cigar-shaped and had geodesic domes above, below, to the left, the right and both ends of it, and although it was a low-resolution picture it was very close up. This thing was hanging in space, the earth's hemisphere visible below it, and no rivets, no seams, none of the stuff associated with normal man-made manufacturing. SK: Is it possible this is an artist's impression? GM: I don't know... For me, it was more than a coincidence. This woman has said: "This is what happens, in this building, in this space centre". I went into that building, that space centre, and saw exactly that. " I would like to know what ppl's opinions are on this. I personally really hope this guy doesn't get extradited to the US as I don't think he'll get a fair trial. They claim he's damaged their computers, but he said from the start all he was doing was viewing them; as causing damage would have been far more obvious. Interestingly it took them 2 years to find him out:-p ! Also plenty of hackers have been viewing these computers, he was just unlucky enought to get caught. Intriguingly, he suggested a lot of these may have been from foreign governments:-p . I would be very interested to know ppl's opinion on this, and so that's why I have posted. I know I should be skeptical, but I don't think the guy is lying(or maybe I'm just under his spell:rolleyes: )). I have placed a link to the interview below. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/4977134.stm
  9. I've seen this movie about 4 or 5 times now and I'm glad to say I think I just about understand it now, and it was a thorughly rewarding experience. I'm a little dissapointed no one (apart from ecoli) so much as replied to this thread:-( . It seems to be the situation with a lot of my posts now, I just manage to end discussions well(or other ppl just get bored I guess:-p !)
  10. I don't think I can make any useful comment on this at the moment as I feel my knowledge of physics is insufficient at the moment, however; I have found a powerpoint presentation on the internet talking about negative energy, hawking radiation and black holes. Make of it what you will. http://www.uta.edu/physics/main/resources/stpr/ppt/Presentation2-7.ppt
  11. I am also quite interested in Physics, and to be honest; I am even considering switching course once I get to University, even though I've already applied for chemical engineering. It's a tough choice to make, and from from my perspective, it seems it would be easier to get a job(probably relatively well paid too) by doing chemical engineering, but physics is a course I would do just for the love of the subject(which is very interesting). Even after having applied to University I'm still not sure what I want to do with my life....
  12. I didn't want to give too much away, because from a personal perspective a lot of the enjoyment I got aout of the movie was just working out what was happeneing as I was watching it. But seen as you asked; It's basically about 2 engineers who are working with 2 others, part time on making and selling inventions. The 2 which I initially mentioned then decide to start a project on their own and start building this machine and observe weird things happenning. This machine seems to have time altering properties and the implications from there on folllow......... It's not the kind of movie that's laid out on a plate for you, you have to work out a lot about what is happenning, but for me, that just made it a more enjoyable experience.
  13. You never know, you might be surprised. I thought I was an introvert:D !
  14. Hi everybody. I saw this film a few weeks ago called primer on the movie channel film four, and recently obtained it from a friend. It is definitely one of the best films I have ever seen, and definitely the best in the category of science fiction and I recommend it to anyone reading this. It is not however, an easy film to follow(in fact it may not be the kind of movie to see if you want a regular hollywood movie or something similiarly predictable), and you may also need a basic understanding of physics to be able to understand some of the finer features. The main reason I'm posting is that I wondered if anybody else had seen the movie and wanted to discuss it and its implications(I still don't fully understand what's going on myself!). What I really liked was that it was a movie that really made me think while I was watching it and, I love that in any movie.
  15. I share my name with absoloutely no one. It's odd though, quite a few ppl have my 1st name, and quite a few have my 2nd but none have both (I don't have a middle name). It's interesting that insane's got a unique name, I thought I was the only one.
  16. Please don't take this in the wrong way, but maybe you need to put in a little more effort in trying to engage conversation with people, especially when you get to college, as the people you meet there will be free of any possible negative presumptions about you. Nevertheless I recommend you try to engage witbh the people you see at school, even simple things like saying hi to ppl. It doesn't matter how they will respond, or what they/you think of each other etc. Just try to be with other people how you would like them to be with you. Who knows, you might even make some new friends out of people who earlier didn't notice you or didn't talk to you. Also don't be disheartened if they still ignore you, it's their own problem if they're like that. I hope that helped;) .

    Why be human?

His false sense of superiority perhaps? Oh sorry, that doesn't make him any better at all:-p ! Perhaps his point is that humans who start upgrading themselves using technology(for example) will stand a better chance of survival(or in the more likely and less extreme scenario, a purposeful existence) in the future as the power of AI increases. It all seems moot in the end to me because really AI would far surpass even upgraded humans. But then again we know nothing really about this kind of intelligence or what their motive will be; as there has been none created so far(of near intellect to us). I think before we do this though we should try to truly understand ourselves and our own potential first(as we are far from that), and in the end not become too attached to our own existence or sense of power and see past the superficiality that surrounds us.
  18. I'm surprised, this thread's been up for a while, and no one else has commented on it I found the subject matter pretty interesting but no one else seems to want to share their thoughts on it(apart from Genecks and Bascule) .
  19. I do agree with you actually, the politics of gathering internation respect and national pride is certainly a factor in Iran going nuclear. I think the iranian regime has just learnt that nationalism seems to work better at drawing up support from the Iranian public than religious politics. It's such a shame I think that people generally pay attention to such arbitrary things(sigh), and not things that would seem important like welfare, employment and education....
  20. Sorry to be picking the bones in your argument, but I seriously doubt this is a major reason(if minor) for the US attacking afghanistan, if it was, it was flimsy and extremely short sighted(even for Bush and company). This is because the project has been dismantled as India and Pakistan do not plan to take part in building the pipeline. In fact they are going forward with a rival project to pump gas from Iran through Pakistan to india ironically. This may have been why India was slightly reluctant to vote to censure Iran's nuclear program at the UN, but at the end of the day sought to please the US in order to help get support for the civil nuclear deal they organised with bush.
  21. I was a little surprised at first about this, but I'm an ENFJ. It said I am a: # slightly expressed extrovert # very expressed intuitive personality # moderately expressed feeling personality # slightly expressed judging personality
