  1. Could it be possible that the universe is older then what we presume, and that the empty space in between galaxies is actually burned out dead galaxies containing super massive black holes, and that these invisible dead galaxies could account for the large amount of matter that is undetectable? How feasable is that hypothesis?

  2. The people arguing against them are alarmists who are depriving starving Africans of food.

Thats a load of #$&$. First off, the world produces enough food daily to feed everyone easily 10 times over. Secondly, its governmental and corporate greed which denies the food to go where its needed, due to political and monitary "issues." Its the "OmFg how can we give this food away for free" bs mentality that causes it. Hell, McDonalds alone throws away enough food daily to save the 30,000 kids who die daily from starvation. How do I factor that? Well, McDs has over 20000 stores worldwide, and they chuck more then 25000 calories of food daily per store. I know, because I used to work for this corrupt corporation. You do the math...

  3. I was watching a show the other day which stated that the poles might reverse one day soon. Well.. as most of us know, certain migratory birds, even messenger pigeons use the magnetic field as a compass. So if the poles reverse, does that mean many birds will migrate "north" instead of "south" due to the pole shift? What will happen to them? Would this pole shift possibly cause a mass extinction for many species?

  4. Have you considered the effects on population if there was no disease, natural disasters, the effect this would have on our resources et.c. I'm certainly not a follower of ID or religion, but this is a weak argument.

This was not directed towards someone who does not believe in ID, since without ID genetic diseases and other things I mentioned would have a nice place in society in general, survival of the fittest, and makes sense.

"Assuming that a god would have no reason to allow diseases and deformities shows a lack of understanding of religion. It's not a good argument."

I was mainly gearing my argument towards those that believe in the Jewish/Muslim/Christian God. Its clear through the religeous texts this god portrays himself as being a "loving caring" god, one which I could not concieve of allowing such things to permiate. I was actually a staunch christian my entire life until recently, and studied arduously the bible in that light, so I would assume I know some things regarding religeous beliefs. I have yet to find a decent reason as to why God allows such things to occur, and a good explanation as to what will happen to all previous intelligent life such as Neanderthal and why such intelligent beings are not mentioned in the bible, or being mentioned as having any sort of salvation. My only conclusion is that the biblical writers knew nothing of these beings, thus excluded them from the text due to ignorance.

"Flawed. It is a bad assumption that a personal god would manifest itself observably. Evidence notwithstanding, it is part of the nature of the personal god that faith is made superfluous by physical evidence. "

To think it is part of his nature to make faith superflous by physical evidence is just as much an assumption as mine. Thus your argument is flawed as well.

"I still maintain that agnosticism is the only stance that agrees with the scientific method. ID is entirely possible but is a religious view and has no bearing on science. ID should not be taught in the schools as an alternative to evolution. "

Thank you for being at least semi-reasonable. ;) And forgive me if I am not making sense, I am alittle "drunk" right now and its hard to think with my higher brain at this time. Hehe. :D

  5. Hey ID guys, I guess it was Gods perfect plan to have all these genetic deseases like the one shown below. What about viruses, rogue DNA gone wild? I guess we are forgetting Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, sun flares, and I will throw in a few killer asteroids for good measure to prove that the earth is far from a stable and nice place. I dont type these things to offend you, but to make you think.

After pondering these points, I really hope you fully read this website with an open mind:

    Why Atheism?

Here is a final thought... Mankind working together has overcome many diseases and problems that plague us. If we stop petty bickering and all work together we can possibly forge a world which would definately be Intelligent Design... Ours. :)

  6. The internet in my opinion is a poor base for human interaction of any kind other then a few specific roles such as education, and even then iffy. Why? Well I think we are forgetting the major part of us that most people deny.. our animal side! Why do I mention this? Well when reading text, you are left with your own mind to fill in many blanks. Tone of voice, body language, facial expressions, and stance. These play an extremely important role in our animalistic side when communicating with another human. Its called "body language" and its just as important in my opinion as oral language.

For instance, when we are aggressive, our faces come forward in a scowl. This can be seen in many species of mammals. When scared, the face shrinks back, much like many other mammals. This is just one example of the myriad of signs we use subconciously from our evolutionary past. Now, if you simply throw all that away and simply use your higher thinking as a medium of communication, as we did with internet chatrooms, fantasys and false presumptions can and will be made. There is no way for genetics to catch up anytime soon (as in hundreds of thousands of years).

Hope that explained another part of the story. :)

  7. Actually I think you're a bit confused on the part that relativity doesn't suggest that time travel is possible. This means going to the future or into the past. The consequence of assuming that the speed of light is constant (a postulate for special relativity) is that time is relative (variant). The way you phrased it: "I fail to see how any one object in space' date=' going at any speeds, could change time itself" is a bit misleading, because there is no universal time with relativity, as with there is no universal frame of reference.

The analogy with the grid is usually used to explain general relativity from a qualitative point of view. The time dilation effect (slowing down of time) suggested by special relativity is better shown using the light clock analogy. Special relativity says that two observers moving relative to each other will observe time slowing down in the others' frame of reference.[/quote']

Ahh I see, sorta.. But wouldnt what you described merely be an observational time travel, much like looking at distant galaxies? I still dont understand how sending something back in "time" would alter the entire fabric of the universe to mold to that one objects perspective and how it could effect the "future" in any way.

  8. You chose the right forum. I haven't yet read this book (right now I am reading "The Beak of the Finch" for biology class), but maybe I will get it out. If you are interested in bioanthropology as I am, find a textbook in the library, or even better, if you are in college take the class. I had a great time in it.

Well I have not actually attended college yet, so the Naked Ape was well written for the layman.. But I will definately look for a good book in that field. Humanity is a fascinating subject. :D

  9. I just finished this book that my Grandpappy gave me called The Naked Ape, which was written by Desmond Morris. Holy moly! I am fiending like a drug addict for an updated book of this sort, since it was written in the 60s. Does anyone know of a good book of this sort that you could recommend?

By the way, if you have not read this book yet, please do. It made me a much more content person about who I am and why I feel certain things.

I was not sure where to post this, and since it delt with human evolution in many respects, I started the thread here. Sorry if I chose the wrong forum.

  10. Please be gentle...

I am having difficulty in understanding how time travel works in regards to relativity. I read an explanation for relativity which explained that space time can be viewed as a grid, in which objects can be placed, and they would "bend" the grid to create a "slant" in the grid, causing the effects of gravity. Now using this same model for space/time, I fail to see how any one object in space, going at any speeds, could change time itself, since although the one object may be moving at a high rate of speed, or even warping the grid in a certain way, how this could effect the other objects on the grid? If I somehow could force myself back in "time," how could all matter in the universe travel with me to recreate the moment in time I was travelling to? Is not time constant? Am I missing something here (obviously)? I hope I am being clear on my confusion.. if thats possible. I have no true understanding of these matters and it would be fascinating to learn how time travel is possible... in "caveman" terms possibly using the "grid" analogy.
