Uranus Has a New Moon
Well, it's not new but recently discovered. A friend called me and told me a few weeks ago and wanted to share. All that's needed now is to submit a name to the IAU. Like all of Uranus' other moons it will be named after a character from William Shakespeare or Alexander Pope. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/nasas-webb-telescope-moon-uranus

If Earth orbited Jupiter at Moon distance
First off the view would be AMAZING! Imagine looking up at the night sky and seeing Jupiter appearing about 25 to 35 times or so larger than our moon. It would take up most of the sky. Unfortunately we most likely wouldn't be able to see other stars with the naked eye anymore. Also intelligent life would most likely end due to many factors. Lots of changes would occur on Earth including: Violent tides would wreck havoc. Our atmosphere would either be stripped away or radically change. If Earth doesn't orbit Jupiter in approximately two days it would be too slow and eventually be sucked in. There's a chance Earth would collide with Io. Earth could be exposed to massive radiation from Jupiter. Oceans would likely eventually freeze. Earth's temperature would definitely drop, possibly up to 100 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Extreme seismic activity in the form of volcanoes and earthquakes would dominate. Earth would likely become tidally locked creating vast temperature differences.

Best Science Fiction Book , Need Recommendations
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but one I particularly loved growing up was 'Ender's Game' by Orson Scott Card. It's a fun read.

Is there anyone of same age or age group as me?
I'm new myself but unfortunately nowhere near your age. I just wanted to chime in and say I love seeing young people passionate about science and eager to learn. My specialty is astronomy so if you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck!

What are you listening to right now?
I'm a huge fan of jazz so right now I have John Coletrane's 'Giant Step' playing on the headphones. Almost as good of an album as 'A Love Supreme.' which I consider his best work.

The Official JOKES SECTION :)
I'm a fan of offensive jokes. Hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings. I'll start light. The Greeks vs. the Italians A Greek and Italian were debating who has the superior culture. The Greek says, “We have the Parthenon.” The Italian says, “We have the Coliseum.” The Greeks says, “We had great mathematicians and philosophers.” The Italian says, “We created a world empire and established Pax Romana.” And so on and so on for hours, until finally the Greek lights up and says…. “We invented sex!” The Italian nods slowly, thinks, and replies, “That is true—but it was Italians who introduced it to women!”

Today I Learned
I commonly look up random things. Love to learn new stuff. Last night I was curious as to what the largest sports stadium in the world is. I was shocked because I figured it would be soccer related. Turns out it's a cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, India called Narendra Modi Stadium. Get this. It has a max capacity of 132,000 people. Crazy, huh?

The Official "Introduce Yourself" Thread
Hola! FNG here. Decided to search for a good science forum and this seems to be what I'm looking for. Can't wait to meet each and every one of you. As for me? I'm a 50-year old astronomer. Remember sitting in my backyard at night as a child looking up at the stars and knowing what I wanted to do in life. Some other interests I have are science in general, history, films, music, writing, etc. Thanks in advance for the warm welcomes and look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and engaging in friendly discussion and debate.
