  1. Yes. it is sad. It's a nice wood. I lived in part of an old Georgian rectory and all the doors and most of the structural wood was local elm.
  2. Does this not mean the dieback-resistant phenotypes are the ones that are left and not that they've evolved i.e. mutations have since occurred? An existing phenotype has been selected by the environment to perpetuate. Or am I mincing words? Same idea with the small cod in exchemist's post. @CharonY
  3. Yes. IIRC The Tesla system can't discriminate a life-size picture of the road ahead from the real one. It will drive through the picture. This because it doesn't use radar.
  4. They should be tested in undisciplined places.
  5. Yes, if one wanted to be compatible with evolution and have a religious belief on it, that would be the way to go.
  6. Proper MAGA's, like MTG, are not happy. It has been said the mid-terms are not looking good now for them and I think this show's going to run for a good while. It just goes to show Trump is pure opportunist and not 'true MAGA'.
  7. Well, one thing's for sure, we can't trust most Israelis in the telling of their history.
  8. I wonder why? I'm being sarcastic. But that's another old chestnut we shouldn't go into here because there is many threads on it.
  9. Ultimately, science works towards finding empirical evidence but uses hypotheses to postulate possible paths for research. The scientific method always leaves the gate open on any conclusions. It is the case that science knowingly never reaches its destination, but gets closer to realizing how nature behaves with each new discovery.
  10. Never the twain can meet. Evolution and Creationism are diametrically opposed in the method that each way of thinking arrives at their respective conclusions. Such a discussion can only have an unhappy ending.
  11. That depends where you stand in this conflict, I think, whether it's pro-Israeli or anti-Iranian. I don't feel that the BBC is a reliable source for geopolitical news. I feel increasingly that it deceives by omission. The AP and Al Jazeera (surprisingly) are more neutral. By 'neutral' I mean there appears to be no obvious attempt to ''guide' the consumer towards a particular view or interpretation. The BBC tends to use emotionally loaded words as though it institutionally believes it has the correct "moral" position on what is right or wrong. The BBC, and a few others, are regarded as being at the apex of news dissemination, but I don't think it can hold a candle to AP, Reuters or Al Jazeera. It's not a matter of taking sides, but Iran has internal issues that only be solved internally. Many leading Israeli people speak of a "Greater Israel" as an aspiration; that's colonialist talk. That's a real problem involving Syria and Lebanon. It is not an exaggeration to say that Israel is the elephant in the room.
  12. Hydrogen was the first element to exist, the rest occurred during fusion processes of hydrogen within stars and their supernova.
  13. The common 'ancestor' of all elements in the Periodic Table is hydrogen. The conditions determined where and how often these elements appeared. Just like biological evolution.
  14. In evolutionary terms, 'fitness' is the ability to transfer genetic information to the next generation under varying environmental conditions. An organism that can replicate its genes through a long series of adverse conditions over others that fall by the wayside is described as 'fit'. The environment modulates the frequency of alleles (single features) by the prevalence of hostile and favourable environmental inputs selecting which alleles persist by allowing the transfer of genetic information. The environment is effectively the 'designer' of all life. That's evolution.

  16. On the face of it, yes, but not once you learn that over the last 120-130 years, the political ideology of Zionism has parasitized and concealed itself in the acceptable face of Judaism and capitalized on their suffering to achieve their territorial and, presently, their expansionist colonial aspirations. It's not actually genuine diasporic religious Jews that are causing the problems.
  17. Search 'Yasser Abu Shabab'.
  18. They are currently funding criminal groups in Gaza to harass the Gazans.
  19. Yes it's a complicated situation. ISIS is being funded by Israel and the Yazidis are victims in this mess, but it's the main geopolitical currents driving this conflict that have to be addressed first.
  20. What do you mean?
