My question is, for a Fusion Power Plant, how would that work?
I want to know essentially, dont you have to put in a great deal of energy to get it started in the first place?
And, what goes on that makes it produce even more (lots more)
thanks

ah great, thanks very much

Ah, I see.
But would one see results after extended periods of time?
Say, driving for 12 hours or so, at 65mph?
thanks

My question is, can Time Dilation affect things like automobiles? even if only moving at speeds of say, 65mph?
(even if its only effected by a few seconds difference?)
thanks

nice stuff!

because most trips last about 6 hours for mushrooms and 8 hours and beyond for everything else (some people have tripped for DAYS on cactus. LSD is usally 12 hours).
depends really
Salvia can last between 10 minutes to 45 or so.
However, its extremely potent.
Typically everything else will last more than a few hours.

Likewise... which is why my posts have been of the tone they were. Let's ask the person who opened this thread what THEY intended.
Mag - A little help here?
Hello!
sorry for the lag.
I was mainly wondering if there were any other animals that could kill them selves knowingly (not being told to or anything).
but as the Darkshade said, extra info never hurt

When you obtain a higher degree, you will be judged on the work you do and your training. WHo you work for and what you do are whats important.
Thus, as someone said earlier, make your choice based on the professor you want to be trained by.
Yeah, we have a good Social Psych teacher here.
I may have misinterpreted your post. If I did, then I apologize.Your past few posts, however, imply that you've already got a pretty good idea of what you want to do, so I'll leave you to it, and again wish you the best. Cheers.
I think we both misinterpreted each others.
because, you see, im looking for a NEW school to go to, however, if I stick with my professor, I'd be at the same one. And then I thought the way you said it made it sound like wherever the Prof moved, I would go too... lol
Anyways, I know what you're saying now, but I would like to search for a different school.
Anyways, thank you, I still have a few years to go, but yeah.

Why do you assume that the professor will be completely nomadic? All of the professors with whom I've worked have been in the same institution for years. Some of the research labs I worked in a decade ago are still there being run by the same professors.
I dont assume that.
You made it sound like it though.

Usually, the best approach in an endevour such as yours is to find a handful of well respected researchers/professors with whom you'd like to work and engage them directly to become a part of their lab. Then, which school becomes secondary (because you'll wind up going wherever the professor is).
I don't have any specific suggestions regarding schools themselves. Good luck in all of it though.
Unless that professor stays where he/she is.
No offense, I dont like that idea at all! lol
Well, the research part yes, and I do plan on doing it, but following them around [like a little puppy dog]? no thanks.

I was wondering if anyone knew about good Psychology Grad schools (particularly Social Psych programs) - for a Masters/PhD.
Next semester I'll be a Junior, and I need to start at least looking into some schools.
I dont car where in the US, or the price tag. lol - I just want to get an idea of what is good.
thanks

but the scientist in me says it has to have been a coincidence. A few billion people dreaming, eventually one will dream the future.
I agree, out of all the dreams people have, and even less that they remember, its still alot.
its bound to happen that they come true, even if its not exactly like the dream - its certainly possible that they could come quite close.
What I find interesting is Multiple Dejavu (as I call it)
its when something happens, and you say "gee, this is familiar" (dejavu #1)
then a few days/weeks later the same thing happens (as #1) and you think "huh, this is familiar... hey wait, this was familiar before!" (dejavu #2, same as #1) lol
its really strange.

At my place of work, many years ago, the whole workforce was tested. All the techies beat the management. The results were, unsurprisingly, suppressed. We were smart and happy, they were dumb and miserable.
thats awesome!
I wish places where I worked would do that
anyways, I also agree, memory has much to do, but also not to do with intelligence.
For example, one kid in High School (Im a Soph and Uni now) and a GREAT memory. However, he seldomly thought of anything new or different, but he did remember everything.

This is not true, there are many reasons why this is not true, what would keep the electrons in orbit and not just plummet into the nucleus, and an orbiting charge is accelerating, and accelerating charges radiate energy, so the electrons would spiral inwards...
So the electrons don't orbit in a classical way which could look like that.
Well then, how would one draw this?

This is what I wanted to know,
thanks
this also means the Forum logo is correct

Well, perhaps you mistyped, but the nucleus contains the protons (and neutrons) so it's not surrounded by them. The electrons surround the nucleus, but not in anything that looks like a planetary orbit, as Klaynos's link shows.
right right, thats what I meant.

From what I've heard on this forum the typical nucleus surrounded by protons, electrons and such is not a good representation of an atom.
So what is?
I would like to see a picture, or drawing

really thats what I was thinking that real color perception in the human eye-brain system works much more complicated than simply assigning a color to every wavelength
Well, I believe its a matter of both.
I think of it that each wave length has a certain color to it - however, depending on the complexity of the eye determines whether or not we can pick up certain colors.
Some animals, for example, cannot see certain colors, or can only see in a few shades - but this does not mean that the color does not exist, it just means that the animal cannot see it.

A self-report measure of intelligence isn't that useful. Not many people are going to report they are of below average intelligence. Also, does bad spelling make one less intelligent?
agreed.
You can give these test to many many people, and very few of them will put "below average"
This was done in our Social Psychology class. The professor gave out a questionnaire, one of the questions was how you'd rate your intelligence.
No one put "below average" - a few people put "average" and the rest put "above" and upwards.
There were roughly 75 people in the class at the time.

Well, first I'll start out by saying that I love cosmology and relativity (ever since I learned about it) - granted I dont have a very good... er cross that out, non existent handle on the mathematics behind it, I like the theories and such.
Anyways, my question is that how can we possibly know the shape of the universe?
If its so large, how would we be able to tell the difference between a flat and curved system? or a curved and closed system?
thanks

First time I've heard this!...
assuming this is the year 1999

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the ratio of boys/girls on this site?
there's been a few threads on this.
I think its like 3 girls per... everyone else, lol.
Searching yields this:

Are you under the impression that Gummi Berries have some botanical reason for including or not including something?
Oh yes of course. I expect large manufacturers to be botanically correct when marketing a product [/sarcasm]
I was just wondering because I was hoping for some Grapes in there. lol.
But when I didnt see any I wondered whether or not it was considered a berry.

True. But I don't think in what country one currently resides alone determines one's ethnicity.
For example.....
An ethnic group is a community of people who share cultural and/or physical characteristics including one or more of the following: history, political system, religion, language, geographical origin, traditions, myths, behaviours, foods, genetic similarities and physical features.
http://www.ethnicityonline.net/ethnicity_is.htm
Do you disagree that many "Jews", "Jewish families", and "Jewish community" groups, fit this definition?
No, they certainly do fit that definition.
However, history, language, traditions (include those of food), and myths, can all be included in the "religion" category.

so what actually makes it so that it can supply power to things (assuming there was a fusion power plant)
