    Stem Cells

I don't get the problem...Take egg samples from 12 women, put it on a colorful spinner. Take sperm samples from 12 guys, put it on a colorful spinner. Spin both spinners and pair them off. Make embryos. Get stem cells. Done. Where's the controversy?
  2. I'm confused. I'll bring us back to the main point that everyone is trying to make. Technology inhibits the main operating standards of "survival of the fittest" Go on.
  3. Um...while that was a really good post, I think it shows us how branched from the topic we are...soooooo...disease...
  4. I wish that medicinal marijuana would be replaced...it just doesn't seem right. I think other chemicals should be used instead.
  5. Chickenpox was fun for me. I played videogames all week and the itch didn't even come to my mind, even in the latter stages. Fever never hit me, i never felt drowsy unless I neded sleep, and I got all classwork from my friend and aced the tests i missed when I got back. What a great couple of weeks.
  6. I know i'm late, but i'd like feedback. Speaking scientifically, I think life begins upon contact of sperm and egg. Speaking legally, I think life begins once the baby can survive outside the mother's fetus. What do you guys think?
  7. I always figured the low carb craze to be more harm than help. Atkins made a really big difference, Its good to hear that low carb is helping people other than crazy anorexics
  8. What is groundbreaking information is discovered at the same time something fatal is done?
  9. I have no doubt that it was written by a 12 year old boy. What the...did he seriously mean that we should fetch actual humans to test potentially deadly drugs instead of mice that were BRED in a LABORATORY? 1 human life for 1 bred mouse's life. seem like a fair trade?
  10. I think that messing with someone's brain should be considered a capital offense. It is a strict violation of natural rights if you think about it.
  11. No no...why infuse this topic with that garbage? That's pretty ridiculous, humans don't have souls...I find it amusing to see christians fret when they come to an area that walls in a specific idea. Why are religious people jumpy when talk of evolution pops up? They don't view primate ancestors as having souls. And thus, it seems hideously unbelievable that a SOUL (oh my god! it is soooo precious!) would then HAVE to develop from the middle of a mutation???? It's the same thing with cloning. Why are religious people frantic about cloning? Because EVERYONE KNOWS that ALL HUMANS BEINGS HAVE A SOUL! thus, when you clone, you are producing souls! and everyone knows that you can't produce souls because the only one who can do that is the nebulous "god" with indistinct powers to create a conceptually muddy "soul". Brings to mind the "ether" that light was said to travel in. Just that ridiculous. Why can't christians be a little more open minded? If the concept of a soul was dropped, suddenly, all science would make sense and no more confusion would ensue...
  12. There has only been one case of a woman getting pregnant with no man responsible, and even though that was the basis for a major religion, it still can't be proved x.x
  13. How can we benefit from natural forces? Hydroelectric power. Water mills generate electricity.
  14. wait...men aren't expendable...cops spend years trying to cacth a guy that "disposed" of one.
  15. "We don't have enough evidence to say that Darwin's theory of evolution is 100% flawlessly correct, so let's just say that a supernatural force mysteriously created everything at the same time and that they all have the same form as they do today" I can see the Creationist battle plan against evolution 1. Deny and hope that darwin will be drowned out by popular belief 2. Since many people believe in darwin now, Deny until actual evidence is recovered 3. Since fossils have been discovered, pick on evolutionism with the micro/macroevolution arguement. If worse comes to worse, respond with "(Enter evidence here) was placed on the earth by God to test our faith" 4. Change the interpretation of the bible in a new version to make creationists look less wrong
  16. I just joined this forum and read the thingie, forgive me if i'm a bit late That article was surrounded by catholic this and that, and I know that micro/macro evolution has been a very big obstacle for supporters of darwin...but... Can't you guys imagine what the follow up to that article might be? It would probably be along the lines of "so...since I have brought darwinism into question, I would like to propose that an unexplicable supernatural deitiy plopped humans, animals, and all forms of life, down on the earth, in the form that they have today."
  17. Experts on alien biology x.X? wouldn't we need to find an alien and cut it open to figure out what junk goes on in there? Or by "expert" do you mean a guy who runs only on theories?

    Why do we age?

I've consistantly run into ads for this drug that "reduces aging" (It isn't endorsed by the FDA, surprise surprise) It does talk about the role of mitochondria in aging and relates the drug inside to the renewal of said mitochondria, but I deeply question its effectiveness...
  19. I think i can rephrase. Can our species gradually become more fit as a whole? factoring in the usage of all these gizmos and gadgets to thwart what determines fitness in the first place...survival no longer weeds out the unfit and thus, I think we AREN'T going anywhere...
  20. Heres a question...is the feeling known as "love" an adaptation? If so, in what way? I can understand lust and attraction in terms of furthering the species, but doesn't love hinder fitness through monogamy?
  21. There should be limits...Many lives can be saved just by fiddling with one or two genes. Health care ONLY.
