  1. You are right, that simplification I've made is crude and technicaly it is simply incorrect but I was trying to get my point across to the OP in the simplest manner. I'm simplifying to an extent where the relativistic effects are observalbe/measurable. I have a question...if we were to measure time dilation efefcts on objects moving extremely slow in realtion to each other where the time relativistic effects would become shorter than the planck time frame would the time dilation effect exist or not or is this uncertain ? Aren't we glad I'm not one of those people.
  2. I'm not sure I follow. I'm simplifying to show that the clocks realy do, physically, tick slower/faster. I'm not implying that anything is wrong, at least not on purpose. As for the non-stationary earth...if I understand correctly nothing is stationary in the universe. Every object is moving in relation to some other object.
  3. I'm having a slight fear of making an ass of myself in discussing this subject with a person who actualy builds atomic clocks but I will continue anyway I don't wonder why there is an asymmetry of realitive time readings between the directions, it's pretty clear to me that the velocities are different in relation to each other therefore giving different, relative time readings. This is a very cool fact and thinking about it makes me grateful that I'm having an oportunity to live in an era when we already figured this stuff out. Nevertheless this is not the direct subject of the OP's original question...I think that his question consists of a very basic doubt that needed to be adressed in the simplest possible manner. At least that is what I would like if I was the OP. Edit: And then theres gravity...
  4. You are undoubtedly right. Despite me omitting the fact that the earth is in motion I've also omitted the issue of impracticality of actually hearing the slower/faster ticking...or that a cesium clock doesn't give a ticking sound. Nevertheless the answer to the OP's question is a Yes, wouldn't you agree ?
  5. You put 2 synchronised atomic clocks - one on a moving airplane and another one on earth - they will go out of synch. The mechanism on the airplane clock ticks slower but slower only in RELATION to the mechanism of the stationary clock which means that if you are standing on earth by the stationary clock you would "hear" the moving clock tick slower. Thats that I think. Edit: So the answer to your question "Does it really tick slower?" is definitely yes. A stationary observer will hear a moving clock tick slower. Also look up "doppler effect" which might be useful as a refference to understand relativity.
  6. Hey Michael, that chicken paper is awesome, I found a better visual quality version of it http://stat.fsu.edu/~chicken/webfiles/chickenpaper.pdf
  7. Your story I like but still "people who dont punch their ponies make me sick!"
  8. Are you rewarding youreslf? If not it does sound like a good idea to me. Go buy youreself something...
  9. Are you familiar with the "Yellow Bastard" character from the film "Sin City" ?
  10. I would like to launch a personal attack on myself - I hope that is allowed along with sarcasm that goes with it. I'm disgusted with myself for participating in giving Tampitump advice in that previous thread of his. I'm furious with myself for completely wasting my genuine effort to belp this guy. I'm a complete idiot for trusting that my sincere words towards Tampitump would achieve its goal. There, I've said it...I'm a complete moron and I promise to do better next time (not) Oh...and I'm afraid it looks like it's number 2.
  11. Strinkjunky, I have an idea. It might sound to you like a cliche but I dont think it is. If you lift some weights and get that blood pumping while youre craving it will flood your brain with endorphins. This does help, at least it helps me - a lot. You mentioned in one of your previous theeads that your fingera go numb after bike riding. I think you could adress that too by strenghtening your back muscles. The quadrangular muscles, the 2 muscles on your back that run from the middle of the back of your head to the middle of your back (they are sometimes called "the stress muscle") are the way to go. Deadlift is the best way to train them but dont jump into deadliftimg before you learn the technique. Consult someone who knows this stuff for a lesson and I promise you will solve both, the craving and the finger nubmness with this one simple solution. Edit: It's The "trapezius" muscle not the "quadrangular" muscle. http://images.slideplayer.com/25/8079912/slides/slide_5.jpg
  12. This might be an even better option if you can keep it together. I've been smoking 27 years (last 10 years its the lightest marlboros available - 4mg, 0,3mg, 5mg, they are called "silver blue here) i smoke pack a day and I actualy think kt would be better for me to smoke 1 or 2 fags per week than to cutt it off completely, at least for the first few months. If you can keep it together that is, I know I cant...the moment I drink any any alcohol it would be impossible for me to stick to that plan. Plus theres the gsining weight factor, judging by your photo you should be fine there Stay strong, think of the beautiful scents you are smelling
  13. Well, I tried I have no doubt that you are hanging in there tight. How are you feeling?
  14. This standup routine cracks me up every time - Luis C.K daughter got bit by a pony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mexxt5kb3Po
  15. Go Good to hear. May the force be with you !
  16. How are you holding up StringJunky? Power!
  17. That is great news. Just make sure I don't die of old age waiting.
  18. Tampitump..how long do you think it's going to take you to stop your self centered whining and start growing some balls ? Tip: It can take 5 minutes or the rest of your life.
  19. Yours is so scientific that I'm having second thoughs looking at a full mug of tea on my desk
  20. I'm sory Tampitump but your problems in relation to your personal judgement might seem severe but they are not in relation to what other people experience out there. I know that you are at a stage when you want people to give you their sympathy but the sooner you grow out of this hole the sooner you will start living.
