  1. I hope your'e talking about your IQ and not your forehead.
  2. Thanks Swansont, I wasn't aware of this. I will need to read up more on this. I am only partially grasping the concept of this exercise. Do you think it comes down to that? If yes theres something crucial Im missing.
  3. It depends on how old you are. The older you get the more difficult it gets to learn a new language (learn it well) I can tell you what worked for me (english is not my native lanuage) and worked really well. I was droped into a public american school by my parents when I was in my teens. I hated them for it, I was an outsider, couldn't speak a word in english. During school hours I was reading books im my native language which drove my teachers nutts. Eventually TV took over my reading (I had acess only to american TV) and after about 3 months I started to communicate pretty well with my friends in school - I was pissed but had no choice. After about 6 months I spoke and wrote pretty well, after a year and a half I was indistinguishable from the natives. After 2,5 years I had problems with pronounciation in my native language which lasted about 3 months when I came back. It wasnt a real problem but people could hear that I have traces of english in my speach. I'm in my 40's now and obviously I lost the perfect american accent I had but I retained the english language skills on a level that I can easly communicate. All the credit for this goes to my parents. The answer to your question is: The easiest way to learn a new language (well) is to put youreself into a situation in which you have no choice but to learn it.
  4. Where I come from, a high forehead is a traditional sign of high IQ. Also notice my photo. Mine didn't fit on it.
  5. Fiber optic does sound more rational to use in this scenario. By "laser linewidth" do you mean beam focus (divergence) ?
  6. Please read the wiki on numerology. Thank you, I appreciate it.
  7. If you are going to dismiss what Ophiolite is asking of you and post an essay based on numerology nonsense, I assure you that your thread will eventually get locked. While you write up your essay please keep in mind that numerology is nonsense.
  8. Tom, try to be coherent this time and focus on what Ophiolite is asking of you. If you post more of the nonsense that you posted so far, I assure you that a moderator will eventually lock this thread.
  9. I used this calculator and the answer it gave is also 36. As did this one and this one as well.
  10. The empirical evidence that I have gathered throughout my early life is quite substantial on that subject and it leads me to the conclusion that I understand your logic very well.
  11. This is well beyond my pay grade. I think Swansont is the most qualified to answer this.
  12. Used to be that too in my 20's
  13. Tampitump, I just saw a video of youreself that you posted in the music thread and I love it...for a few reasons; First off, you are quite a good guitar player and I realy like the way you play. Secondly, you showed balls to post a video of youreself after all that has been told and said here on this forum, you are the man and I salute you for that. Last reason and the most important one...I am now absolutely sure that you do need to see a psychologist and the sooner you do the better for you and everyone around you. You are going on and on for months on this forum about your unimaginably horrible looks when in fact you are a cool looking guy, you are tall and there is absolutely nothing wrong with your looks. Tampitump, after all those epic stories you wrote about your broken life due to your looks I am just stunned. I am not totaly surprised because I suspected that you might actualy be a normal looking dude but the scale of your self esteem problem is just beyond me - I have not suspected that you might actualy be a good looking dude. With your hight alone you can get any girl you want providing that you dress well and not open your mouth untill you see a doctor and get your head straight - listen for once and go see a psychologist. Also get that gym mebership I suggested to you 2 months ago, get those endorphins flowing as soon as possible. Please listen this time and do it no matter how much you don't want to. And do it now - right after you finish reading this.
  14. Have you looked at the chimp photo I posted in my post above? It's not just sharks...drop any human with this guy into any environment which doesnt require abstract thinking and the outcome will be not so hot for the human.
  15. I think what you talk about is more of an ethics issue than a classification issue. From the scientific (evolutionary and biological) point of view there is no doubt that humans are animals. My 6 month old son is teething right now and he's the reason that Im writing this at 04:13 am. Chimps are born toothless and they go through basicaly the same process of teething as humans do (amongst many other evolutionary similarities) You say that bats which are also mammals by the way, are not comparable to the amount of information we know about the world. Humans developed various traits in the process of evolution which enabled us to survive...like passing information from one generation to another. The truth is that we are physically weak compared to other animals - take Gorillas for example which are pure muscle and their strenght is incredible. We had no evolutionary choice, it was either develop big brains, skills and eventually technology or we wouldn't be here on this planet. I draw a certain sense of privilage and dignity from being in the same basket as other animals on this planet. It also gives me a sense of being "one" with nature and not feeling alone. I'm proud that my brain is capable of grasping Einstein's relativity but I'm also proud that a bat or a puma have their own, unique evolutionary traits. We as humans were realy just lucky to get to the point in which we are at right now but don't be fooled...bats will be here long after we are gone killing oureselves with our "superior" minds. To finish off on a slightly humorous note, take a good look at this photo: http://m.imgur.com/MVMpe?r
  16. I don't know why but I imagined pushing a boat which I'm standing on.
  17. Yeah, you are right. I try to avoid chicken and buy it from "ecological" sources. At least thats what I did when I had lots of it when working out a lot. I have a thing for steak though...after a hard workout eating a 500gr steak gives me such a rush that I dont even care about whats in it at that point.
  18. Sounds realy yummy but I'll stick to steak. Edit: That is so sick imatfaal. I was gonna eat some of that Mother's in law meat for dinner just now and Im having second thoughts. This is the reason I stay away from wild meat, besides it tastes like cheap perfume to me anyway.
  19. One of my friends father hunts regularly for years now. I saw him dry the meat outside for weeks. I'm not sure if it's healthy as larva can breed in the drying meet - frankly, it's disgusting.
  20. I presume this must have been posted here before as it is just too hilarious not to but I've just found today and thought the users who registered after March 2015 have the right to know the truth: http://7seals.yuku.com/topic/916/ScienceForumsnet-Moderator-receives-Judgment-Day-31015 This has officialy made my day Edit: I just realised I might have posted this in the jokes thread instead of making a seperate thread. Mod please feel free to move it there.
  21. So does this mean (as I suspected) that in order to elaborate on the Yes & No answer to Geordief's 2 questions we have to dig into the absurdities of QM ? Thanks for this post btw.
  22. I know you are talking relativity here but the uncertainty prinicple inevitably comes to my mind when looking at the above question.
