Sounds easy, but it's giving me problems (mainly because I haven't worked with organic compound questions all that much). Any hints from you guys as to what to do? So far I have converted the 25g to moles, and when I attempted putting my answer in the Kw = [H+][OH-] equation I got the wrong answer...

Is there a way that you can tell how concentrated a solution must be for it to be saturated? For example, suppose I want to make a saturated NaCl solution in water. How do I know the maximum molarity possible and thus how much NaCl to use?

I've got a question about manufacturing those gas-discharge tubes which you can use to 'see' gasses. For my element collection, I picked up a set of tubes which were bent into the shapes of the symbols for the element they contain. (I bought them from Max Whitby a few years ago for my Noble Gas samples. They are INSANELY awesome looking). So while I have my noble gases in the form of a discharge tube, I don't have the same for my hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen. I asked Max if he'd be able to custom build those tubes for me, and he declined saying that the heat given off by hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen was too risky. I do know that those gases give off a lot of hea…

Hi, I have a question on measuring ingredients. All the ingredients and procedures I find are in "parts". For example, it is like 35 parts...whatever and 4 parts...whatever. How can I determine how much to add? Is there a formula?

Does anyone know if gas chromatography could be implemented to measure alcohol levels in blood? Or used as a type of breathalyzer? If not, what yould be another method I could use to measure the amount of ethanol in a solution??

Where could one find structure pictures for the bit more complex molecules? I mean, you can easily figure out a simple compound's structure but when there are like 20 carbons and dozens of other atoms involved, the chemical formula just isn't enough. I found Wikipedia to be a rather good source of such structures, but they aren't always featured for every compound. I became rather annoyed when I couldn't figure out myself what a hexamine molecule looks like (no YT, I don't want to manufacture it or anything ).

Now that YT even had to post a thread about the illegal HE synths, I was wondering: What sort of compound synthesizing is absolutely illegal? Would someone mind guiding me to a page or source that concerns this (for the U.S. for example, as their restrictions seem to be quite the same as they are in European countries, and just about any country)? I especially would like to know more about the legality of synthesizing corrosive, potentially poisonous or sensitive materials. Of course, I have basic understanding of this, in the lines of "you're not allowed to make amphetamine".

I have some exploding targets, that a friend gave me. I get .25 kg of a white powder (assuming its a nitrate) and a table spoon of silver powder (Mg? Al?). When mixed they need a no. 6 blasting cap or a 30-06 bullet to set it off. And man is it loud!!!!!!! I want to know what it is. You cant burn it, or shoot it off with a .22 cal or even a .357 mag...

I was just wondering what the worst chemical accidents people here have experienced, and what chemicals they are particularly sensitive to. Here are mine. 1): In a high school chem lab I needed to make a sodium silicate solution, but decided to do it outside of a fume hood. As I was weighing out the powder, a fine breeze moved by the area I was working in causing the powder to puff out into the air. I inhaled a pretty big breathful of it and started coughing uncontrollably. They had to pull me out of the lab and into the hallway until I could stop coughing. It was horrible. I had to visit a doctor later that day to get my lungs checked out. Thankfully, there…

I own a chem lab and have a question, ok now in most chem labs they have a black acid proof paint on the table tops, i need to know where to get that paint and any other information about it. In my chem lab i have many wood cabnits that are very nice and are made for chem labs, i have 2 green glass sliding door chemical cabnits, and all that stuff but when i made a table to go in there i wanted it to match the black table tops, and be asid proof, but i couldnt find any information about the paint so can you help me? p.s. does anyone else have a chem lab of there own? if so tell me about it.

Hi, I was wondering when calculating the empirical formula from percent you will also have an element with no subscript. In other words in an empirical formula you can't have C3H8 right, it would have to be something like CH4. If anyone knows the answer can they please help me.
