CyberActivist.US is forum which deals exclusively with regulatory issues. Since many regulations are based upon scientific findings, there is a science forum on the website. We encourage readers of "Science Forums" to participate in the development of Federal regulations. Consequently this is not a chat room; we are looking for substantive inputs. I do not know if anyone else has seen this or if its posted but I thought it was interesting anyway: The following pictures are of a guy who works for the forest Service in Alaska. (note I have all three images but the last is quite graphic. Ill only post it on request) He was out deer hunting. A large world record Grizzly charged him from about 50 yards away. The guy unloaded a 7mm Mag Semi-auto into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The thing was still alive so he reloaded and capped it in the head. It was over one thousand six hundred pounds, and 12' 6" high at the shoulder. It's a world record. The bear had killed a couple of other peop…

Hey guys, I got a question for you. Today, my Physics teacher told me to find the answer for this question. The question is: Why is the sea blue ??? -Well, I think that this question has something to do with light, reflection and refraction stuff. So, could you guys try and come up with a possible answer for this question. I really need this answer. Thankx for help. :feedback: :bs: :help:

I have an idea on how to easily eliminate nuclear waste. The hotter things are, the faster the emit radiation. The more radiation they emit, the less radiation left to emit. Basically, if we got a big insulated tungsten pot, put a bunch of radioactive waste in there, heated it to 2,500 degrees, we could probably generate more energy from it than we lost. I am a creative problem solver, and I am highly uneducated, but do you think this has merit? Instead of taking 10,000 years to eliminate, it could take 10-1000 years to eliminate the radiation, meanwhile a energy surplus could be generated.

Oceanography, is it real or fake? If it is real, how come no one acknolages it, pardon my spelling. I believe it is fake! There is no proof it is real seeing how no one wrote in it! Alls well that ends well. I guess this never started, so does that mean it is not well?

Hey, I'm doing a school project about evolution and I would really appreciate if you guys could respond to these questions. I only need one person to respond, and I would really, really apreciate it. If you don't wish to leave your real name, that's fine, but it would help. Here they are: Is evolution inevitable? Can emotional evolution be included in the same category of change that physical evolution is? Can evolution be a bad thing? (detrimental to human race) Has evolution, either emotionally or physically, happened in the past? Is it possible to de-evolve (become a lower life-form)? thanks, to whoever can answer my questions, I'd really a…

The above page is from a book I have from 1945 called "The Wonders of Science." Below the picture it reads: What surprised me so much was not that they had the 4 million years ago completely wrong, but that it was from 1945. Maybe 100 years prior I would have expected such a far off measurement, but this was less 60 years ago. The page got me thinking about what we are taught today in school about science and the natural world; how things are. If 60 years ago they were teaching children that dinosaurs were alive 4 million years ago, what parallels are there today? What are we being taught that is completely and utterly wrong? Of course, we will not know until the…

I thought these lonely forums could use some traffic. In Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History resides the largest, best-preserved T-Rex skeleton ever found., named Sue. The restoration was done just off the main lobby so that visitors could see, which was kind of cool (I was there). When I went back in Nov. 2001, she was standing up at full height on exhibit. Check it out: http://www.fmnh.org/sue/default.htm Tom

No, this thread isn't about Anna Nichole Smith, sorry From what I understand, fossils older than about 60,000 years have to be dated using methods other than radiocarbon dating. A method they commonly used for dating dinosaurs is measuring the age of the surrounding rocks and the layer in which the fossil is contained. This seems feasable assuming the fossil is in a specific layer than can be measured. But what about fossils of early bipedal apes that have been found? Some of these are found in valleys [can't remember the name of the real famous one] where the fossil is just under the surface. Dating the surrounding rocks seems a bit of a longshot. What happens if I …

Today a friend (who is far removed from anything science) asked me why the government wastes billions of dollars a year on "useless" science. This is a good question. Why do huge amounts of funds go towards things like studying the social behavior of roaches in australia, when it should be going towards things like cancer and AIDS? I struggled with the question a bit, because I think all true science is in some way valuable, even if it merely adds to our knowledge. I found this notion extremely hard to explain, especially in light of funds going towards projects like these instead of more important issues. As a scientist, what is the answer to this question?

Why do convection currents exist? What makes them rotate the way they do? Will they ever stop? And if they do stop, will the mantle cool?
