I am 33 years old living in East-Europe.When I was 19 I was eager for knowledge, enthusiastic, aspirational and I enrolled in faculty. That was a complete failure.I totally were in the wrong direction. My choice was made under pressure and that field wasn't intrigued me at all.I finished a half of faculty and quit.I didn't want to torture myself doing what I don't want to do. After that I fell asleep somehow, lost motivation and did what I had to do not related to the science. Now I am awaken again,at least I feel like that and want to get back to the right track. I am sure it's never too late. Any advice is very much appreciated.

The psychologist Piaget says that unless you learn certain things at the proper age, you have forever passed the developmental stage at which you brain is capable of learning them well, so it is too late to acquire that knowledge later. However, his theory applies only to early childhood development. But I wonder if this applies to the learning of advanced mathetmatics? Every person I knew in my first year at university who was majoring in math said that he had learned calculus when he was 12 and some relative had, for some reason never clear to me, given him a calculus text which he simply devoured. Ever since then, these math majors would say, they had found math…

Hi Forumers, >*Don't really expect an answer but merely an alternative path of thought* I've got expelled from universities twice already, and contrary to my family's wishes decided to give up on higher education altogether and try to work my way up without a degree. Spring semester just began and my father is coercing me (offering to pay tuition) to enroll in a _community college_ and pretty much give it a fresh start. He expects an answer by *today*. I've made up my mind already. I've many job options. I started working as a freelance programmer/website designer and a waiter at night and considering i don't have almost any expenses at the present t…

Hi I'm a senior in grade 12 and I do the three major and best sciences (Chem, Physics and Biology) This year one of our forms of assessment for each is an EEI (Extended Experimental Investigation) and I want some ideas so I can make a start to them (Starting Biology early gives me plenty of time for plants to grow, or for the effects to become distinct and conclusive) I'm looking for EEI's to do for all sciences and I like to do experiments that have a good amount of prac work, because just theoretical research gets a bit boring. For physics I was thinking of making an Air Cannon (testing barrel length, distance travelled/pressure etc) or a Water Rocket (pres…

I am a better person because of science, I have many learning tools for my hobby but one that has really taken me is watching the different science shows on TV in HD. I have had to come to the sad conclusion as many others have that I will never get the opportunity to venture out into the Universe looking for anomalies. Although I find this fact saddening, I am pretty thrilled with watching a program visually more astonishing than I would have ever been able to see it through my own eyes. I am as addicted to shows about our solar system as I am about string theory and different interpretations of multiple universes. I have but my imagination and my big screen and all th…

Hi folks I was wondering if some one could share with me the formula of finding pressure to change state of gas at a specific temperature. So if I want liquid Oxygen at room temperature 25'C, how much pressure would I need to apply on it to convert it from gas form to liquid??? Or any other gas for that matter. Thanks for your input.

A great problem for creative, imaginative, and energetic students just starting to learn science is that they can't do anything creative with their knowledge until they have endured many years of just trying to learn what others tell them has already been established as 'right.' Labs which would be fascinating if you were a scientist designing an experiment to discover something new are deadly dull when you're a student just trying to get the 'right' result. At Harvard, every student in every subject has to submit a thesis for an honors B.A. except for physics, since the Physics Department long ago decided that students at that stage in that field would have nothing wor…

I am wondering if increasing the pressure on water would have any effect on the amount of heat required to increase temperature of water by say 1'C. So Q(heat added) = C(specific heat) * m(molar mass) * t( change in temperature) [Can read more here: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/thermo/spht.html] In the above mentioned equation, would you know what changes if one increases/decreases pressure on the system? My thinking is, since at low pressure molecules will have more intermolecular space to move it would be easier for them to absorb heat and move rapidly and under high pressure molecules will be close to each other thus more heat will be required…

Hey guys, I'm trying to decide between getting my PhD or my MS/MBA cause I really don't wanna try to get both (or I guess this is always an option). I'm going to tell you everything about me and what are my life goals. I have a 3.9 (I had straight A's but then get one D, do you think they'll forgive the D?) GPA in mechanical engineering with a minor in applied math and I'm graduating in 3 years with this being my last year. My plan was either to get my PhD (through a BS-PhD program) straight from here at my school NJIT, or get my masters and MBA. Preferably an MBA at a very good school, such as an Ivy League school. I have a lot of goals in my life and interests w…

I want to know how much power(kh-hr?) would I need to convert 1 liter of water to oxygen and hydrogen. Also I know that adding salt helps speed up the process, does anyone know what concentration leads to highest production level of gases. And if salt has any effect on amount power being used for 1 liter of water' electrolysis. Thanks guys look forward to interesting replies. Ben

Some background on me: I am a married father of three boys, ages 3-9. I hold a BS in Electrical Engineering that took me 7 years to obtain. (Just graduated last May) I started out in 2001 with an AAS degree, then slowly (SLOOOOWLY) worked on my BSEE. I have since then started grad school to get an MSEE and have successfully obtained an EIT license (Engineer in training, pre-cursor to PE). Up until very recently, I had thought that I would continue my education towards a PhD in EE after the Masters is finished. Now I am not so sure. I am 32 now, and I'll be 33, maybe 34 when I get the Masters. At that time, I may be able to obtain my PE. A PhD would likely take an…

Hi I learned about various advanced technology available for electrolysis of tap water. I was wondering if someone knows of a system that helps achieve electrolysis at high altitudes where temperature of water is close to 0'C . I know that a usual system would perform poorly due to Arrhenius principle. But I was wondering if someone knows of something otherwise? Best, Ben

I have been flicking through a couple of science related podcast's lately and am having trouble finding any that I really care for. I was wondering if anyone could recommend to me a podcast that they prefer? It doesn't matter if it is any sub field of science, as long as it is of good quality I am happy to give it a try. Thanks!

I'm still deciding between Chemical engineering and Electrical, but I have a while, and I know I want to be an Engineer. I want to know some good Universities particularly known for their engineering schools, I live in California, but suggestions for Universities anywhere else are fine too. I really don't know where to go...
