I have a poll already set up here http://www.yourfreepoll.com/gducyruzsp.html Feel free to to explain your thoughts as to why you believe this as well. Is there is any way to quantify this? Also, I'm not knocking anyone's choice of major fyi. If all other things are equal (student's intelligence, quality of professors, the college/university, etc) which academic major would be the most difficult for someone to complete? The options are in the poll answer options.

So, I know for a fact that I want to major in Psych. I would love to be a psychology professor at a university. I'm only a jr in high school now, and originally I was going to minor in business as a fall back. However, I've always been a huge fan of physics, though I've never taken a physics class yet. I've taken all the sciences, bio, chem, and this year I'm going to be taking an ap bio class. Should I take a physics class? I love thinking of quantum mechanics and stuff, but I would really want to know whats ACTUALLY going on. I can understand some of the concepts but not all of it. Now I don't really like math, like geometry and basic algebra, but could that change? Any…

Hello! I am finishing up my AS this semester, and trying to decide where to go next. I have my college choices narrowed down for specific programs, but I cannot decide between pursuing a BS in Biology or Environmental Science. I don't really have a career choice made just yet, but I will tell you a few things about myself so someone may be able to help point me in the right direction, or at least give some ideas where either degree could take me. -I need to be physically engaged; I cannot sit all day -I really enjoy thinking, or being mentally engaged -I LOVE to be outside -I have a strong passion for both animals and preserving/learning about our natural world …

While Wikipedia is a great place for information the fact that it's editable by anyone means it's not reliable, experts and ameteurs alike can add their comments to an article and it's not always unbiased. While there are links to sources at the bottom of most articles it's usually cited as an unreliable resource. Taking into account the above, how can you varify anything on the internet as a reliable resource? is Physorg.com reliable? how can you tell something has been peer reviewed or that the same information is generally accepted science? what about Howstuffworks.com too? I find that very informative but without a research background I find it difficult to tell. …

Alright, I decided to try out working in a lab. I'm faced with the choice between several labs I know little about besides what little I'm able to glean off the net. Its far from certain that any will take me but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I'm interested in bioinformatics/computational in the context of biomedical type work. Unfortunately bioinformatics/computational stuff is the kind of thing that is too new to have many practitioners in most academic institutions. There's one place which focuses on computational studies and evo morphology. Not really interested at all in the evolution part. There's another place that fits the bill but from r…

These Video Discussions are excellent and I would welcome anyone who viewed them to respond to this post with comments, discussion or debate. Please do not comment with out watching the videos. I am specifically interested in response to the postulates in the video from MIT. Hello science community. I recently have decided that I wish to conduct a lab on what happens when you are deprived of sleep. The reason I decided to do this is because on my ACT package(I got a 22, my reading was a 19, science 23, math 25, english 22) it said that I should consider doing an experiment to give me a better understanding? So I naturally thought of sleep, because many things like insomnia and the such are present in the world. How I will do it: I will most likely only do this once, but I may try to do it 3 times over the summer as according to the scientific method the more times you repeat it, the more accurate your data. Also this will be done with m…

Hey guys. I'm a high school senior, and I want to get into the environmental field. I'm interested in and passionate about conservation, and I want to make a difference given the threats of global warming, species' extinction, etc. Haven't really found what I want to focus in, which isn't a big concern because I have a lot of time left. Right now, I'm trying to figure out what I want to major in for college, and I'm somewhat confused. The college that I want to attend has a biology major with an environmental focus. But, I've read online that, because of how many pre-meds take a biology major, it really has no value anymore. I'm willing to earn a masters degree after coll…

I need some novel ideas that will help me stand out on an application to the University of Chicago, preferably within a year of today. Can anyone help me? My Highschool grades blew, and my first shot of college doesn't look too good either, but, I'm back in college, getting some of the basics out of the way. I'm looking to get a Bachelors in either Astrophysics or Cosmology, and can readily grasp the concepts of some advance sciences, but not the Mathematics, not yet.

Hi, I'm new to the site. I was curious if I could get any input from anyone about a course of study. A little background. I graduated from Texas A&M with honors with a BA in English. I deeply regret this. I HATE English. My original goal had been to be a literature professor...and then I realized I hated literature. I got into philosophy which brought me 180 degrees around to a passion for science and math that I had once had when I was younger. I'm now 25, and I'm going back for a second bachelor degree and then after that into a Ph.D program because my ultimate goal would be to be a researcher. Unfortunately, there are too many things that catch my interest, and bei…

Good morning, afternoon, or evening, depending on your timezone. I am a 24-year-old undergrad *currently* majoring in Biology at a community college until the time comes when I can transfer to a 4-year California State University. When I do transfer, I will specifically be working towards a B.S. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (that is one major). However, there is also the option of transferring into the Environmental Studies program. This university (California State University--San Bernardino) does not offer an Environmental Science program, unfortunately. It is my understanding that Environmental Studies is the theoretical version of Environmental Science. …
