I stumbled across this while looking for something cool to post in the "Hello World" thread that started up in GD. I though I'd share, because some of the examples are really stunning. http://computersight.com/programming/five-strangest-programming-languages/ I like Malbolge the most, although the "please" part in INTERCAL made me laugh

  2. If I understand correctly, liquid crystal displays use the Digital Video Interface (DVI). The DVI interface uses a digital protocol in which the desired illumination of pixels is transmitted as binary data. My question is: When the digital signal enters the back of the liquid crystal monitor via the cable, what happens then? How does the binary signal tell the monitor which voltage to apply to the liquid crystals in order to produce the desired colors?

  3. If you took even a high school-level course on chemistry, you are probably familiar with the "limiting reagent." Long story short, the least amount of a particular ingredient will be used up, and the rest of the raw ingredients will be "leftovers," kind of like how, if you have all sorts of sandwich supplies, but only two slices of bread, you'll either have one goliath of a sandwich, or a lot of leftovers. When shopping for computer hardware, it's safe to assume that various pieces of hardware are loaded with limiting reagents. For example, if a CPU has a 3.0GHz processor, quad core, 1.5V voltage, 150W, and 4x2MB L2 cache, but its L3 cache is only 64kb, you've got a …

hi everyone, There are some tips for the Music PC. 1.fine tune the system: enable the least services. install the least programs. 2.Lower the power consumption: use high performance low voltage CPU. use lower voltage DRAM. Use integrated GPU. 3.use the lowest latency DRAM timing. 4.Mitigate vibration: Fan less PSU or external PSU no fan in the case take HDD outside the case 5.choose a good case: consider vibration and shielding 6.get a RAMdrive and put your file inside to playback. 7.Use professional software to playback. (fine tune the software is required) Sonar Samplitude etc 8.Software up sampling is a good idea. playback aft…

If anyone is able to help with these questions please let me know and able to explain how they got the answer as well!!! 3. Suppose you wish to rescan the image 8 by 10 in colour and you have two possible scanner settings; one to scan 8 bit colour and a second setting to scan 16 bit colour. 8 bit colour means that the image requires1 byte per pixel in each of the three colours of red, green, blue. 16 bit colour means that the image requires 2 bytes per pixel in each of the three colours of red, green, blue. 1. How many bytes are required to store the image in 8 bit and 16 bit colour respectively?. 2. If your USB flash memory key has 16…

When a program or a piece of software goes to perform some action, it has to take a few steps right, that eventually interfaces with the operating system and the hardware correct? Well, should there be a regular pattern to this behavior? I was wondering if you could make a program that would statistically map all of these actions so that abnormal program or pc behavior could be mapped to whatever piece of code for instance that was causing it to occur. I think one of the ways that such stuff could be traced is not only via the path any of the actions took, but how long also. Is such technology in use today, or is it simply of no point to even think about. I use t…

Okay, this is a little difficult to express, but I'll do my best. I wanted to ask, what's real programming like? As in, how do they do that? I've always wondered how they, I don't know, make Half-Life 2, or Adobe Photoshop...both of those are programmed in C++, yet with what I've learned so far, I just have no clue how they did it. I feel like there's some major something I'm missing. Also, how do they start? Do they just create a new project in their favorite IDE and start coding? Do they even use IDE's for that matter? I've also been fascinated with game mods, specifically those that significantly alter the gameplay. It's obvious that they had to alter part of the g…

I'm interested in computer science. I like all sorts of programming, from various programming langueges to the more unusual such as Cellular Automation (not to do with biological cells). Iv'e seen videos like this one, TED talks is also good for this sort of thing. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-6950604815683841321&ei=UZGNSommHoaJ-Ab2g4X0CA&q=dna+hacking&hl=en Can I get some information about what information transfer, storege of and acess to state and computation occurs allong the a DNA or RNA for what set of the four letters occur along the strand. So, this is the thread that is the one where I will ask all my questions regarding computers due to the fact that I seem to be taking up too many threads with all my questions. Here is todays question;{oh, there is more to come if no one minds} I was wondering, what is a computer program physically? is it just addresses for specific logic gates? When you type in a computer program, does it just have different logic gates for different commands, {and those logic gates have addresses}, that when typed in has some sort of address assigner that directs those signals to the logic gates wich do what is needed {math, etc...} and displays it on the moniter? Thank you…

  16. In Howstuffworks it's written that a keyboard is a lot like a miniature computer. It has its own processor and circuitry that carries information to and from that processor. A large part of this circuitry makes up the key matrix. When the processor finds a circuit that is closed, by pressing the "a" key for example, it compares the location of that circuit on the key matrix to the character map in its read-only memory (ROM). Then, it sends the "a" key to the computer. My question is: How does the character map inside the keyboard's processor work in detail? Could someone give us a detailed explanation on the character map inside the keyboard's processor?

I like to keep things going when I'm doing whatever it is I'm doing. I often need to read lengthy online articles to keep up to date with or further my knowledge on n number of topics at any given time. I'm spending way too much time reading while I could also be doing other things. So where's the text to speech api? Selecting, copying and pasting text and then listening to it would allow me to spend more time programming, playing WoW or doing math....... TV used to be the filler while doing these things but I have had a no TV policy for some time now... I need to fill the gap. Software is available, there's all the telephone billing agents and I've seen ga…

Are there any good reasons to maintain the combination of quad and triangle strips in DX10......... I would personally prefer to just break the quads apart. Aside from memory resources is it in any way beneficial and/or necessary? Is there an increase and/or decrease in processing performance? I have noticed other software and mesh converters breaking the quads down into tris. Would this be in any way risky to the way a model would deform when under the influence of animation?

  21. In Howstuffworks they write that memory cells alone would be worthless without some way to get information in and out of them. So the memory cells have a whole support infrastructure of other specialized circuits. These circuits perform functions such as: • Identifying each row and column (row address select and column address select) • Keeping track of the refresh sequence (counter) • Reading and restoring the signal from a cell (sense amplifier) • Telling a cell whether it should take a charge or not (write enable) http://computer.howstuffworks.com/ram1.htm What they don't explain is what a sense amplifier and write enable are. Could anyone expl…

I am currently pyursuing a project based on these topics and so, proper understanding of these topics is very important for me to continue further. Please help. Thank You in advance.

How do moniters take bits from a set amount of wires from the computer to every individual pixel? there can't possibly be a microscopic wire connected to every pixel can there? That would be unbelievable The only thing that I can think of is that the pixels are like a matrix and the bits somehow {thats my problem, if anyone can explain, that would be cool} just "pass" the pixels at the bottom and get to the top. Is there individual addresses sent along with the image bits as well? How? Also, how can images be presented digitally with pixels? Is there 2 wires to represent the three colors in binary per pixel? I know that I ask alot of questions here on these …
