Hi all, I recently stumbled upon an article suggesting nicotine addiction directly affects a part of the brain that impacts our self discipline. Unfortunately, I did not bookmark this article. I am having a hard time locating peer review literature relating specifically to this topic. Can anyone point me in the right direction to help me answer the following questions? 1. Does nicotine addiction negatively impact a persons ability to maintain self discipline? 2. Is there evidence to suggest that ex smokers significantly increase self discipline and is this a result of training the part of the brain that influences self regulat…

We live across the street from a power substation and have had several noticeable health problems since moving in. We have had the water checked, there is no mold or anything else obvious in the house. The house is about 300' from the substation. We had the local utility company come out and show us how strong the emf's from the substation were and they didn't seem to be even as strong as they were from our microwave. We also notice that we can't get reliable cell phone service in many places in the house. That's also true for outside the house in certain areas that are about 30' from it. There is a spot in the living room that I notice a low-grade but obvious vibration a…

  5. Hello everyone, I am working on a project where I need to write about what tissues (not bones) that form the knee and help it function. After my research, I have come up with meniscus tissue, cruciate ligaments, articular cartilage, and tendon. I have not written enough content yet and was wondering if there are any other structures or something I missed? Thanks.

  6. A lady told me that she substitutes grape fruit and tomato juice for coffee. She says its a real energy booster. She drinks a full glass of grape fruit juice in the morning and then at noon she has two glasses of tomato juice with her lunch. Now I doubt this can have the same stimulating and energy boosting effects as caffeine but I'm wondering if there's anything to the claim that grape fruit juice and tomato juice can boost one's energy to even a small degree.

Scientists have found that the hallucinogenic active ingredient within the mushroom could help to treat a wide range of psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety and addiction. The study provides guidelines on how much of the substance should be taken in order to deliver maximum benefits with minimum risk. It also warns of the dangers of paranoia and delusions if a safe dose is exceeded. One of the most interesting findings confirms the experiences of …

Hi all, People around the globe know this, but Americans and Isrealis don't. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, called "HIFU". My husband got prostate cancer and we live in Colorado, but a friend told us about HIFU, so we found it on the web and booked it in Mexico with an American doctor who flies down there every weekend to treat men. We met the doctor the night prior to treatment, the next day hubby was put to sleep to prevent movement. It took 2 hours, no cutting involved, no pain, then I waited for him to wake up and we went to the beach and out to dinner. There are about 30 American doctors who fly out of the country to treat men on weekends using …

  11. I've noticed that if hypothetically I've smoked marijuana within one or two weeks of drinking I don't get hangovers. And I'm the stereotypical skinny guy who usually gets really bad hangovers. If you look at some of the things marijuana treats verses hangover symptoms it would make a lot of sense. Hangover symptoms: Dehydration (fixed with some water lol) Headache* Bodyache* Nausea* Loss of appetite* Fatigue Irritability (probably caused because of the other symptoms more than anything else) All the *'s are treated by marijuana. Makes sense to me at least. I cant find any studies which prove this though. A word of warning; from what I've heard yo…

Are fecalysis, urinalysis, cbc, and serum electrolyte levels enough work-up for acute diarrhea? I've had watery diarrhea (no fever, no abdominal pain) last year and had these labs taken which showed unremarkable results. Gave me metronidazole because amoebic dysentery is pretty common in the locality. Stool returned to normal in consistency after about a five days. Same thing happened to me recently and the labs were also normal. Prescription also consisted of metronidazole even though there was no cyst or trophozoite in my feces. I also could not believe that I would get amoebiasis twice since I'm very careful with what I eat and my housemates which are also eating t…

  17. I have been smoking high quality medicinal pot 2-3 times every day for the past 7.5 years. I just quit about 3 days ago to take a drug test next week (total of about 10-11 days). I need to find some statistics on ng/ml of thc detectable in urine for chronic smokers. I have read that it can go up to the thousands!!! Is this true? If so, how long for such a chronic smoker to get below 100-150? Was the smoker fatter, skinnier, etc.? Did he/she exercise? I have found some statistics out there, but none are very clear or specific... I plan to use the Erowid.com Visine method to drop my ng/ml significantly (about 2/3 decline in concentration), but it won't be enough …

OK I eat like crap people I average around 800 Calories a day be it a box of Kraft dinner or a 150 gram bag of potato chips. Somtimes I change over to large salads for awhile or I'll go to KFC. I only eat once a day unless I'm hung over then I cure it with Chocolate milk and pizza pops a couple times a day. I take ginseng and a few sexual health herbs so anyway............Modern science says a person needs 2000 calories a day to live and less is going to lead to weight loss. I walk everyday maybe a few kilometres more if it's nice so........I'm about 150-160 lb 5 ft 10 and I know it's not healthy but I'm doing fine so why is this? All medical science I have read says 800 …

Just wondering, what is the comparison between the effects? They could both possibly be used to treat the same illnesses. Knowing its less dangerous than alcohol is enough to make me think it is completely ridiculous not to legalize it. If you only use it say a two or three times a month, it wouldn't even have a significant effect on health from the somewhat damaging smoke. Probably nowhere near as deadly as fast food. I'm just trying to establish the degree of idiocy and hypocricy there is in this war against drugs, which i may agree with for harder drugs that are actually addicting, but if you legalized simple marajauna i think that people wouldn't care so much about tr…

It's common knowledge that eating healthy gives you more energy. So here's a question: does eating junk food reduce your energy even if you've taken your daily requirements of health foods? For example, suppose for a full day, someone ate a balanced quantity of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and lean dairy products. He ate the required daily amount for someone of his type. He's getting enough good quality sleep and he's staying away from drugs and alcohol. If on top of all that he had a fair amount of junk food (say a bag of chips, some pop, a donut, and some buttered popcorn at a movie) would he still have his energy levels up at what they would be if he c…

  24. Hi: I'm about to lose it. I absolutely HATE the taste/smell of most healthy vegetables but I NEED to eat them for my physical health. I have a VitaMix blender that chopped these veggies into their molecular level. However, I still need to drink it to get it into my stomach -- this resulting NOXIOUS flavors cause me to vomit and make me extremely discouraged from maintaining a healthy diet. There is only one way to get this nasty-yet-healthy concoction into my system without suffering and that is to use and orogastric tube. An orogastric tube is a device goes into the mouth, and down the throat and finally into the stomach. This enables liquids to enter the st…
