Steel wool burns very well. And I think youre confusing iron ore, iron, and steel.

Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, with other random impurities in it based upon what 'type' of steel it is.

My grandson is in the boyscouts. One of the things he had to do was start a fire without a match. I thought he would rub two sticks together or use a magnifying glass - nope, he did it with a 9 volt battery and steel wool.
