Albino wood roach changing colour

Featured Replies

A friend of mine showed me this wood roach just now that she acquired from a prac that was leading. When she first saw it, she says that it was in appearance, but since having been in a falcon tube in her pocket for 3 hours (it came out of a white bucket), it had changed colour from white to a light brown. Is this the result of temperature or something else? I thought maybe it was a response to light, but the bucket it was in was dark.

Edit: this is a picture of the little guy now.

I found an albino palmetto bug (southern for cockroach) it was in a dark pit that was only lit up every few years for inspection when it was opened. The roach was snow white and never changed color the few hours i had it. Possibly yours was another color mutation or they were simply different species...

I think we found the answer. Apparently they are white directly after they moult and eventually regain their pigment. A little less exciting than originally thought, but still cool to watch. Even just sitting here for half an hour he's clearly gained more colour.
