Hypnosis... is there any science behind it ?

Featured Replies

Or is it an elaborated scam ? Does charism play any role with hypnosis ? Can relevant historical events as from charismatic leaders change/re-route behavior and beliefs of populations permanently ?

When young, witnessed a serious relative hypnotizing someone. Still in my retina. But always kept an 'agnostic' feeling.

If there is science; a perfect replication of the hypnotizing 'process' should always work... Could then a 'machine' as a computer program do it consistently ?

CRD summary

This meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of hypnosis for psychotherapeutic and medical applications. The authors concluded that there was medium efficacy for International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10)-codable disorders, and low efficacy for medical procedures. Given the lack of methodological and study details, and potential for error and bias, these results should be treated with caution.
