How is the cause for the expansion of the universe explained?

Featured Replies

That's the question. If anyone will answer it - I may post my 'uneducated' guess at it.

It is a consequence of the curvature of space-time, the same thing that causes gravity.

Imagine two people standing near the north pole. They both start walking due south in a straight line. Because they are following lines of longitude, they gradually get further apart.

The same is true of objects in space.
