post count down!?

Featured Replies

whoa! I suddenly only have 599 posts, or so it appears! What happened to the 779 or something i had about an hour ago?!? Has anyone else had this problem?! Im not mad, just really suprised! What happened?

Don`t Panic! :)

Site maintenance scripts on the db which includes a rebuild of post counts has been run as a mattr of course.

It usually drops everyone's count a bit because it ignores soft-deleted posts. This time of course it also ignored GD and the removed thread area, hence the big knock-down.

it`s nothing to worry about, and all will be fixed in due time, mean time, feel free to enjoy the free bar and snacks available :)

lol, save some for the rest of us man. by that, i mean both babes, and booze :)

We recalculated the post counts from scratch excluding removed and deleted posts. Posts made in general discussion were not counted either. No posts have disappeared. They're in general discussion, which doesn't count towards post counts.

...let's not forget your posts that were soft-deleted or moved to the hidden forum :P

Those weren't counted either.

It removes the post from general view, but mods can see an audit trail including the reason for deletion.

Not really, no.

It had a big impact this time because post count incrementation has been turned off for GD and removed threads.

So that's what it was. bud noticed it first, probably, and I was quite surprised too.

Now now YT, drinking in moderation is OK but when you start seeing your wife as multiple persons, it's time to call the cab. ;)

outta interest what is the advantage to the mods/admins of running this "post killing script" ! ???

There is no "post killing script".

Over time the records in the database are corrupted by a variety of factors. The postcount synchronisation script is just one of several tasks that the maintenace function carries out.

ok so i worded it badly!

but what does SFN and you admins gain outta running the post count sync script.... even if it does maintain the post number.

i mean i dont mind and im not saying dont just as a person interested in computers i wonder from an admins view what is the advantage of running a sync process such as this?

i mean, its not like that larger numbers take up more space on the server or something!

A database without problems, and a more realistic idea of member participation in scientific discussions for guests and new members.

Actually they do, but that's not really relevant.

For some people that doesn't seem to be worth getting their post count lowered. ;)

Post counts are granted by the administration, and the administration can take them away at will. Freedoms likewise.

I honestly couldn't give two hoots, and I seriously doubt Blike does either.
