The Gimp is the most comprehensive free photoeditor like photoshop but the learning curve is quite steep . I use Paint. That's the easiest way to fix your problem as opposed to learning a new program. Next time register the software before you discard the package it really doesn't take that long it's a mild pain in the butt to avoid hassles like this in the future. I don't know what linux you are using but this is a link with Ubuntu in mind...that should cover Mint as well.
