I like making mind maps to summarise information. Others like lists or diagrams and that is absolutely fine with me. However, I need freeware to allow me to make mind maps based upon the method taught by Buzan

Can anyone help out, or is it back to the old-fashioned use of pencils and paper again?

Well, if you leave out the fancy neuro images and brainy icons, what you've got there is basically a process flow diagram. There's a freeware product based on an IBM tool that you could use. Not precisely what you want, but it could be adapted to your needs to some extent.

Navigate to the download page, and once installed, Freemind creates perfect mindmaps every time, I love it.

I use a web based browser program for this sort of thing, all you need to do is create a account, and it will save your diagrams, it is great. bubbl.us
