Stupid question =)

I was thinking.. (very little) and just wondered if the earth and its magnetic poles could be used to make an electric generator.. like, something that never needs to be charged.. that just generates electricity =/

I believe a fellow named John Galt already has. :P (Someone has to catch this!)

If you could get something conductive to pass through the field lines, then you'd have some current (very little), but the earth's magnetic field is so weak in any one place that it wouldn't provide much power.

The change istelf also tends to occur over hundreds of years, and there's a period when the field disappears completely, so I don't think it would be very economical if you did get a potential... particularly as the time period between shifts is on the order of hundreds of thousands of years. :/

EDIT: Sorry, I thought you were talking about the pole shift, my mistake. :(

It would take so much money and you amount to nothing.

Doesn't Galt use it to maintain the force field over his place in the Rockies? And if so, why are you and I still here?

Forcefield is that possible?

but how will you make such a big generator ,and the earths magnetic field is very weak relative to its size so it is impossible but scientists are working for a lifetime working battery that doesnt needs to be charged so just wait and see.
