How would I discolor a metal?

Featured Replies

I want to discolor a 5 Indian Rupee coin to make it look like a £1 GBP coin. What chemicals would I use?

Sorry to say coloring in a coin dosn't tend to work in a convincing way. I don't know what they are made of.

i have no advice for you, then. it's hard to do chemistry if you don't know what your starting materials are

I am actively disinterested in this topic, but thought it a simple enough answer to find as pertains to composition. Nifty chart... right there... go figure... at wiki.

Which leads to a pretty darned useful site over at the reserve bank of India:
